Yeah. But I mainly mean the japanese people who hunt them "in the name of science". They have to be killed , and their family has to get heavy fines. The inuits kill a whale once a year or so as they are just like mammoth hunters in the ice age |

Every species in theory can be hunted if there's a sustainable population, the question is, besides conservation status, in the real value and replaceability of resources provided by this animal, both for local people and for world economy. To northern natives, the whale gives everything for life - meat, skin, tendons, bones, blubber, baleen etc. While Japanese could live without whaling, they rather processing them to pet food & fertilizers than eating them to survive. Though not all Japanese are bad... if you watched The Cove with attention, most of them just not realized the truth about whaling and the effects of cetacean meat on people. Things should only be killed if needed, not to satisfy one's ego. Also don't negatively respond to this post, because what you say is your opinion, not fact Edited by Tyrannocanthosaurus, Feb 1 2014, 03:57 PM.

I don't actively support subsistence whaling by Inuit, for instance, but I'm not against it, as long as it remains within sustainable boundaries. I am against commercial whaling, however. Besides the animal cruelty involved it's also a huge waste of money, time and resources, especially the Antarctic whale hunt. Shore-based dolphin hunts like the ones in Taji and the Faeroer Islands are utterly reprehensible and should be ended immediately. Just because something is a 'tradition' doesn't mean it's good or should be allowed to persist; slavery, human sacrifice and suppression of women were also traditions which we (wisely) abolished. |

I very strongly disagree with whaling. Personally I think it his inhumane to kill endangered species just for a bit more cash that won't last nearly as long as a whale could live. Fines and jail sentences should be given to the companies that support and send out the whaling boats. I really just don't understand why whales aren't protected from whaling?! Every other endangered species manages to get protected, but because whales are so big and live in the ocean, they somehow deserve to be unprotected from the slaughter boats? It's disgusting and shocking, and needs to stop before the whales become extinct. |

Whales are protected. It's just there is no way to prevent it if people use the scientific excuse. |

Using the excuse of being scientific is just as bad of an excuse as shooting an endangered species is conservation. Edited by Tyrannocanthosaurus, Feb 1 2014, 05:53 PM.

I don t like whaling but I havent got problem with Inuits traditional whale hunting. And they need whale meats to survive. I dont like what Faroe Islands whalers do/when they kill a lot of pilot, beaked whales and Atlantic White-sided Dolphins in every year./I don t really think they will starving if they finish whaling and they also have several domestic animals species: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faroe_Islands_domestic_animals yes sure they needed to resign some traditional food/ I also dont like what Japan whale hunters do./especially when they kill whales because they need for scientific research/-Really scientific reseach? Lamalera whale hunters mee is a question/I dont like that they kill/ several dolphins/pilot whales, beaked whales, spinner dolphins, sometimes orcas and other species/,sperm whales,sharks/especially the threatened whale shark and mako sharks/,and sea turtles. One lucky that baleen whales hunting is a a traditional taboo here. But may like Inuits they also need whales meat. In my opinion:expcet some traditional hunt,Todays we dont need whale huntings,we can replace materials what in old times we extracts from whales. And whales also endangered animals and do not reproduce quickly .It is feared that many whale species will die out or population will dramatically reduced if some countries will countinues the industry whale hunting with modern means.+ Whale Watching more profitable than whale hunting. And sorry but Somehow unwittingly reminds me of this song/Who don t like Country not listen/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcjbQqXyvyw Edited by Rudyn, Feb 1 2014, 07:50 PM.
