Facts about your country!; To learn a bit more about other people cultures and way of life

We have a diverse international community, so i thought, why not learning a bit more a bout each other's culture?

Here you can share facts about your culture and country so we can learn a bit more about how life is in other places of the world.

I for instance i'm from Argentina. Despite our horrible polititians and economical inestability i really love my country. We have all kind of beautifull biomes, landscapes and interesting wildlife, but what i love the most is our culture. In Argentina family and friends are extremely important and is pretty common to find any kind of excuse to get together and spend some time with each other. We even have a "Friend's Day" here. Is like a Mother's day but for friends.

Other things i love about Argentina is our food. If you even come here don't forget to try the dulce de leche (is a kind of sweet melted caramel kind of thing make with milk) or drink some mate (not everyone will like this at first though as it is kind of bitter, but is a pretty common infusion here that consists of a herb called yerba mate that you put in a small recipient (called mate) and then you pour hot water to it and drink it using a metal drinking straw. You can have it with honey or sugar and is pretty common to drink mate with friends and family in the afternoons or even drinking it alone as it has a lot of great properties for the health). And of course i can't forget about the asado ;)

I have a lot more things to tell about my country, but i want to hear things about your culture too. How is life there? :)

So this mate is like the Argentine version of tea ?

What to say, my coutry resembles a boot :P
If it wasn't for the people living here, which I definately don't like (I wonder how did we get such people from the country that unleashed the Romans on the world), I'd really love Italy.
We are a country full of history, with many touristic attractions like the Colosseum or the Leaning Tower which isn't far from where I live (I've never visited it though), and then hundreds of churches and other historic buildings.
We have a nice variety of wildlife, although overall it's just a resized version of the one from Continental Europe, and it has been raped to death in many places.
The variety of food we have here is simply impressive, there's plenty of cheese, cured meats, vines, and do I really need to mention the various kind of pasta, cakes and the Pizza ?
And then we have plenty of local traditions, like parades, fairs and things like those.

Well, we began as rebels in Europe, annihilated various native groups, and removed God from our authorities. Other than that we just invented stuff...

We eat frogs and snails too. I never tried them but i'm curious about the frogs only, snails don't appeal me (weird since I eat clams and cephalopods without problems).

Well, we're still working on that, with mixed success. One day, hopefully.

We've made it illegal to bathe with oranges in Pennsylvania, and we've successfully illegalized whaling in Utah.*

*these are real US laws.

I agree in every-single-way about this, food in Argentina is the best, how come you didn't mention your country's fabulous Empanadas? And what about Lomo (Or Llomo, not sure how you write it... :/ )?
So Brazil eh?
1. Nope, not all women can dance samba and not all men can play football (I can do neither for example :/ )
2. Nope, we're not a country full of beaches and tanned women in bikini walking in the sunset
3. We're not all black people, in Brazil there are black people from Angola, Italians, people from Lebanon, germans, native south americans, japanese and people from many other places and cultures
4. Our country is definetely not made of forest only, we've got a pretty big biome of Savannah, a Grassland biome and even a semi-arid biome
5. Most of our original coastline (Or at least Rio de Janeiro's) was actually Mangrove, but then our wonderfull government cut nearly all of it down for building cities, my house for example used to be a Restinga or a swamp...
And then lastly, but most importantly, we DON'T SPEAK SPANISH FOR GOODNESS'S SAKE, IT'S PORTUGUESE!

I'm from Brazil (Brasilia), I pretty hate my country... We are in constant corruption (everywhere, even in the school snacks there is corruption!), we have a terrible administration problem, we are a poor country. Story finished. :P

But yeah, we have a awesome wildlife, although the government don't really care for it (the president only cares about saying that is doing new schools, and all, but, really! She is just taking our money!), so most of our resources are getting worse...

But what I love in Brazil is the weather (catastrophic at true, today my city was destroyed because a strong storm, houses were destroyed because lighting, and all city was flooded...), and our foods... Oohhh, I love most of our foods, fishes are so delicious :3 Feijoada is also awesome btw...

We here are quite happy all times (not in mornings...), we go, and say, and try, fight to get what we want... We don't have a tradition here I think, not sure... Oh, and most of peoples here don't like domestic cats... Cats are awesome, how can someone don't like cats!??!

Questions about where I live? I don't live in Rio, this ask to extremos ;) xD :P

ZC, I quite like mate, but the mate from Brazil's South, I think they're different... I plan to visit Argentine next year! :D Hope to see Buenos Aires Zoo

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

well we in the netherlands do have king (Willem-Alexander) and queen (Máxima) which are very populair. the queen is native Argentinian.

We in the netherlands are famous for our cheese (I really hate cheese), the tulips of course and various other sweet snacks like ''stroopwafels''. this are two biscuits sticked on eachother with syrup and it's really delecious.

other Dutchies, continue telling about the Netherlands

WellI agree with most, but I actually live in Niterói Hudson :P , and we're not a poor country, we're the World's sixth biggest economy, problem is most money is with businessmen, politics and Evangelical Church leaders, and not where with the normal people...
Also, I love our cuisine, the fact that we have culinary from all over the world (Angola, Portugal, Italy and Germany just to mention a few) is really awesome, and the fact that we eat beans the right way with rice is really great (I don't know many other countries that eat it like us).

@Extremos: you are right i forgot about the empanadas xD I've never been to the northern provinces of my country, but people say the best empanadas are made there. Also even though futbol here a HUGE deal, i don't like it nor i play it and i know almost nothing about it xD

@Hudson: if you came to Argentina and want to go to a zoo, don't visit Buenos Aires Zoo... i really hate that zoo for several reasons. You should go visit Temaiken instead. Is not far from Buenos Aires and it is a bioparc. Much more natural and beautiful than the BA zoo.

@Extremos: I think no country eat rice and beans everyday... xD Well, I still think we're poor, cause to a rich country needs to at least 60% of population have a few money, and here I think maybe 20% have taht money...

Any way, Niteroi is in Rio de Janeiro State, and, Niteroi is just a lake, or a bridge from Rio ;P

@ZC: Yeah, so, now I need to change my route :P Anyway, I'd also love to eat some of your national foods...
