I hope it's useful to some.

Anyway, I added full TAP anim support to the new blender now with scripts version 54. Instead of using posed bones, the animations are visualized as the movements of empty objects. This makes editing existing TAP anims super simple! Just import them into a blend file without an armature, and you get the animated empties moving around. You can then edit them as you wish, and export the animations again.

The benefit about this method is that you don't need to create bones for each node, and thus don't have to worry about their rest pose. Also, you can take any animal model to preview your animations instead of the default empty object. (note that there must not be any armature in your scene, or the BF scripts will fall back to the armature action export, and also, of course you should apply the model's transformation before using anims on it).

Also note that for some reason, most/all (?) original TAP anims seem to be sped up to .33 seconds duration. The duration of the animation does not appear to be relevant, however.
