Released these yesterday. Two different "tarp blinds" for separating exhibits that share see-through fences. There is a single tarp (so you can still see the chain link), and a double sided to hide both sides of fence. They don't fit every fence style perfectly. Work better with level 3 and above though to hide the lower half.

You asked for it (some of you), so here is the start of it:

No, they do not go up and down. They are scenery. I will not be making them to "match Sophie's walls". There will most likely be a smaller sized one. You can place them on elevated paths if you want to make one for monkeys/birds or what have you. Trying to figure out a half open one that will make the wall behind disappear or some other sort of trickery. We'll see. Still working on textures as well.

I like the transfer gates. Would you be able to make smaller ones that are half way up the wall? Something that may be used for monkeys/small mammals.

Pretty pleased with how these are turning out. I added a stock interior shot for the open one seeing as my alpha trick wasn't working as expected. With some good photography and animal placement, it's pretty believable. This is the medium sized. I will also do two small, and two large.

Also thinking of adding some type of handle to the bottom of the door to make it look more like....well, a door...lol.

Thoughts, comments?

They look great. I can't wait for their release. They are one of the things I want the most

Looks fantastic! My vote would be no handle, all shift doors I have seen don't have handles. Any chance the coloring could be a little more mute? Instead of an "industrial gray" maybe more of a "rock gray"? If that makes any sense at all.

Yes, still messing with the textures and intensity.

So I downloaded your tarps and I was very much looking forward to them but I am having difficulty with them. They don't seem to line up with the fences at all? Am I just using them wrong or has anyone else had this issue?

Yay! Love it. I also vote no handle- sometimes you get slides with handles, but mostly they are on pulley..or pushy (!) systems (iron bars connected to slide so can be operated from further away). We have one with a handle on the side for our capuchins, but all others are pulleys.

May not be taking requests but I would love to see a raceway, perhaps with a crush piece too- could all be released in one 'off exhibit realism' set. And the crush comes in giraffe size too.. haha I'm getting greedy now.

Could you provide a picture of what you mean? They are designed to line up with the first "bar" of any size 3 fence or higher. Lower fences(like in the picture) will have some of the tarp sticking above. They are not "flat", so that's why I did the two sided tarp to cover any overlapping fence pieces. They are really meant to place behind the fence, but if you have another exhibit on the opposite side, then you might want to use the double tarp. Again, a picture would help me here.

Xirapha, not sure what you mean by a raceway, and what a "crush" is?

A crush is a stall like set of fencing that usually has a moveable side wall the pins the animal in place, usually for the purpose of veterinary treatments, hoof trimmings, etc. Used in zoos for the same purpose. Larger ones may even have hydraulic moving side walls.

Here is a pic and description

Not sure we really need one for Zoo Tycoon. It would be difficult to make from scratch, and I would imagine would just be an object.

And a raceway is simply a set of fencing connecting one area to another. May be covered like the ones Zoker (I think) made a while back. Or could be temporary fencing leading up to a crush for example to guide animals into a crush.

Or like in the Philadelphia Zoo where raceways have been set up allowing animals to roam about the zoo. http://www.kleinandhoffman.com/site/project/philadelphia_zoo_-_treetop_trails_animal_raceway_exhibit/28/

Yes as Mike says, a crush is used for isolating and in many cases restraining an animal for medical purposes. Most zoos use them for most animals, especially chimps/great apes, bears, cats, large hoofstock. Of course to make a working one would be impossible, but an object would greatly improve realism for our behind the scenes stuff.
A raceway is like Zokers one, but I was hoping for a remake. The ones I am familiar with were just large enough for a single animal to pass and usually animals pass through it moving between off exhibit to on exhibit. This means that animals can be singled out/keepers can control which animals go into exhibit. The crush (probably have other names overseas, but we call them crushes here) are usually part or connected to the raceway system.

Lion in raceway (in this case part of the dens itself) http://www.zoolex.org/zoolexcgi/viewpicture.py?id=1588&pic=6
In this image there is a 'chute' which could refer to either a raceway or a crush! http://www.zoolex.org/zoolexcgi/viewpicture.py?id=1607&pic=14
Leopard raceway like the ones I am familiar with. This one has a slide that is pulled and not on a pulley..our wild dogs had a system like this and the pull slides could be used to shut a dog into the crush part of the raceway. Once the dog was in there, there was another panel that could be pulled towards the keeper and locked to reduce the space and therefore movement of the dog.

Of course these days zoos are moving more towards less restraint and more voluntary medical treatment via training and conditioning, but 'crush' zones are often used as training space, and zoos don't have time to train every animal.

I just like realism behind the scenes. We can kinda make these with fencing/mesh rooves but not very realistically.

I am signing on tonight to announce that I am no longer going to be designing for the game. I am most likely done playing the game as well. I just don't have any joy out of making zoos. I get a great idea, and by not even half way through I lose interest. My designing has fallen WAY behind what people are doing these days, and I just don't have the time/interest to make stuff anymore.

I knew this day would come sooner or later, and I am wondering if I have just finally grown too old for the game. I have many other hobbies and real life that take more of my attention. I will never say that I am done for good, but I have taken all my project files and placed them on an external drive for now. The game is still installed because my son plays it, but that's about it.

Feral will remain open, and I will remain around the community as time allows. I may release a couple things I have been working on if I decide I like them enough to do so, but I wouldn't count on getting anything more from me in the future. I never say never though.

So farewell(somewhat) to the game, but not the community. It's been fun providing downloads to the fans, and showing my zoos, but all good things must come to an end.

If mods could keep this topic open please. As I have stated, I may still release some projects I have almost done. Thanks
