What right do they have to confiscate your belongings for such a long period of time? I mean, keeping them till the end of class is one thing, but two weeks?? @Crookedjaw: Recess is something that elementary school students have around here. Basically a break from class that allows them to go out on the playground and stretch their legs. It usually stops by grade 7, however. |

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

that's something we think teachers can't do. a few years ago a phone was stolen after a teacher had confiscated it. @fridooh: if we skip school we get detention. it differs from school to school and some schools give you detention 2x as long as you skipped. in your case would that be 2 months detention or so ![]() the education inspection can give you a fine for not going to school. |

At our school phones are simply asked to be put away, and only confiscated if students get too persistent in using them. |

At my school punishments ranged from a report which would affect your votes (and when I was younger there were reports to the parents to let them know), addictional homework, to "surprise" tests for the whole class right the day after, but it depended a lot on how AH was the teacher. One time, the physical education teacher (otherwise known as Hitler) made us run for almost 2 hours ... |

They get confiscated till the end of the schoolyear here Professors generally try to avoid it by confiscating them for everyone at the beginning of the hour and giving them back at the end.

Usually when something is confiscated here you have to ask your parents to go and take it back. |

I think those confiscated items should legally be considered stolen property. |

Stopped at grade 5 for me... @Furka: I support minor physical punishment in like P.E., something like go do 30 push ups or something for messing around, but thats ridiculous and excessive! Edited by Admiral General Aladeen, Feb 19 2014, 11:49 PM.

We get a break at lunch obviously, in which we're allowed to go outside and even leave the school grounds if we wish. Not sure you'd call it recess though. |

I'm amazed how different the Swedish school system is compared to many other places. I didn't go to school for a long long time and I got no punishments. I was always late, I was rarely on school ground. I hated school. I never did my homework, I never paid attention in class. But I never got punished in any way You grow up after a while and now I kind of regret that I didn't take school more serious. Now I need to retake many of the courses I failed last year. Well, I'm much more happy with the way I'm studying now
