Just 30 minutes? :o
We get after-school detention for 1-3 hours :|
Nothing better to punish young people than to force them to sit in school longer. It'll sure make them eager to expand their education. :P

I'm at school right now, so I wonder what the teachers will do if they catch me looking at a topic lampooning their punishments. :P

But seriously, I think the main reason education is generally unpopular among the current generation is because it's forced on them. Being locked up like an animal and yelled at won't exactly generate enthusiasm.

Considering that the latest generations seem to prefer going to parties and getting drunk/high, I don't see how they would spontaneously follow lessons.

I never understood the appeal of such activities, but maybe that's just me since I've never been an especially social person.

You will respect my authoratah.

Here about half the students are "academics," I suppose it's sort of an exponential thing, the more people do it the more socially shy people feel comfortable doing it.

Peer pressure can be a powerful thing, sadly. I´ve never experienced it, but I´m not a very social person in general.

I think the biggest punishment my school has in place is a 30 minute after-school detention for lateness in the same day. Alongside an isolation centre for people who constantly disrupt classes.

That's just the punishment for the sixth form students, as in the two oldest year groups. I'm not entirely sure what the punishment system is for the younger years but I doubt its over 1 1/2 hours, that'd just be obscene.

Some of the teachers in my school will actually give you a 0 on a test if you´re talking. Never happened to me, though.

Wait, what? Burn it! Burn that school to the ground, with everyone inside! That's just preposterous!

If this under exam conditions though? In the UK its perfectly legal to disqualify any student who talks during an exam.

Swigity Swag what's in the Bag

it's understandable, being disruptive can be...well disruptive.

I think you're missing the point. Having them step out of the classroom for a moment when they're being disruptive is one thing, giving them a 0 for something that has absolutely nothing to do with how well they actually did on the test is quite another.

I completely agree with Cyborg..... The teachers here warn us to give us a big fat, round 0. :p

If it isn't under exam conditions then that's understandable however I believe those who disrupt exams don't deserve a grade, why should they?

I agree with ZKG. People disturbing an exam are obviously not interested in good grades :P
