Jaguarundi Welcome to the jaguarundi exhibit, home to the two sisters Aina and Azucena. They are still quite young, and there are plans to eventually introduce a male for breeding. They have a spacious outdoor enclosure and a indoor facility in the case of bad weather or if the desire privacy. General InformationKingdom:Animalia Phylum:Chordata Class:Mammalia Order:Carnivora Family:Felidae Genus:Puma Species:P. yagouaroundiJaguarundi are found in South American grasslands, forests and jungles, and are officially classified as 'least concern'. They have a long body and tail with short, rather stumpy legs. Their fur is usually brown-ish grey or an almost 'fox like' color of chestnut. They are most active during the day, meaning that guests always get a good view of them playing in their exhibit. They are not threatened by any major dangers, apart from deforestation, as there is not a particular trade in their fur. Here though, they are a guest favorite due to their playful nature and rather odd appearance. Exhibit Here is the entrance to the guest viewing facility, with large glass windows to allow for the best view of Aina and Azucena. They are re-enforced for the safety of both visitors and animals.

Here is the actual exhibit, with the various elevated climbing structures for the animal's enrichment. Aina in particular loves climbing all around the enclosure and leaping onto her sister from the heights of the platforms.
Continuing along the path, and looking back at the sheltered area where we just were.
This is the high-roofed indoor facility. The glass is sound-proof and one-way so the animals cannot see or hear the guests, for their added privacy. It is also landscaped with tropical plants, like the outdoor enclosure.
Here is Azucena in the indoor facility, where she prefers to spend her time due to her shy nature.
Looking back at the entire guest viewing facility.
Here is the overview of the complex Now, to meet the inhabitants This is Azucena, the smaller, younger and more timid of the two. She is easily spooked, and when she isn't in the safety of the indoor facility she often sticks to the back of the enclosure in the vegetation. She is a real sweety, melting the hearts of her keepers. She loves fish, which the keepers sometimes give her as a treat!
Here is Aina, the elder of the sisters. She has a vibrant, bouncy and outgoing personality, sometimes teasing her little sister. She is a favorite among the staff due to her 'fabulous' nature and daring-ness to do crazy stunts and jumps off the elevated platforms in the exhibit. She loves to sleep or play up on them, and only really comes down to eat and play with her sister. I hoped you enjoyed my exhibit, and if so, I would be so happy if you voted for me!
