In case you hadn't noticed, our site has recently been immersed into the world of birds, with the Festival of the Birds being one of the most prominent events to happen this month in the ZT2 community. The Festival of the Birds featured several contests and challenges that our members participated in with great enthusiasm, which all of our staff are very grateful for. Some of the voting for these contests is still underway, so head over to the Festival of the Birds section to cast your vote!

Amongst all the excitement of the Festival, the staff also released several new silhouettes as part of a new challenge, the Achievement Hunters Game. The birds unlocked in the challenge will be available in the Pointies Shop very soon.

As for the future, who knows what's around the corner? The staff will be having a well-earned rest after all their hard work during the festival, but you never know what could be coming soon.

This month, we celebrate artistic talent, with Farkle. He has been very active in the art section, with his amazing PowerPoint Graphics which have taken the forum by storm

1. When and how did you first become involved in the ZT community?

I first entered the community for downloads, after I saw links to fansites on the official ZT2 website. One site led to another, and soon I ended up at Gaia. I first started actually posting a little bit there, but I wasn't really active until I joined TRT.

2. How has the community changed you as a person? Have you allowed it to?

The community has made me a lot more thankful for what I have and where I live. It exposed me to all kinds of new people from all different places and backgrounds. :) I was happy to get involved in the community, and I think it's definitely changed me for the better!

3. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live?

Hmmm... this one is tough, but I think I'd choose to live somewhere in Europe, maybe France or Spain. It's so beautiful there, and the culture is so rich and interesting.

4. What are your favorite animals?

Another tough question. My favorite animal changes all the time, but I consistently like Polar Bears. Indian Rhinos are cool, and I also like duikers.

5. When did you develop your love for animals?

I've always liked animals, for basically as long as I can remember. I always wanted to be a Marine Biologist when I was little. I think it was from watching so many nature documentaries. xD But when I first started playing Zoo Tycoon is when I really started to learn about and appreciate different animals more.

6. What do you want to be when you grow up?

I haven't entirely decided yet, but I want to do something art related. I'm not good at math, or science, and art is really the only thing that has consistently held my interest for my entire life.

7. Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Well, it depends on the day, but I tend to be a morning person. I like getting up early and having the house to myself for a while. :) Plus, it's so quiet in the morning.

8. Want to share any sneak peaks of anything?

Once again, the staff team has undergone a reshuffling, firstly with the additions of Philly and Okeanos to the staff team, who're both very pleased to be part of the forum. Julien became our new moderator, and Orca Freak took on the full time role of our Pointies Manager. Fridooh became an Admin, a role which we all think she is very suited for with her caring attitude towards the forum. Unfortunately, with the new additions to the team, comes the loss of Hudson, who has decided to leave the role of moderator, and became a VIP. We wish him well and we hope he'll still stay active on the forum in the future.

In March, TRT celebrated its first Birthday! The staff arranged a big event for celebrating the first birthday of TRT ! There was the goodies section, in which a lot of new birthday banners and avatars were released which were free to use. A lot of new animal silhouettes were released in the shop to celebrate TRT's first birthday. Also, there was the 'Gift a present' contest, where you could choose a gift for a friend. A lot of other interactive contests were created, including designing, drawing, zoo building and many more !
The festival stayed for a long time and came to an end in April. Check out the memory box for more information.

The Festival of the Birds was one of the biggest events in TRT yet, it was a large festival focusing on our Avian friends who are known for their grace and beauty.

First off, was the inclusion of free bird sets and free pointies, which involved posting once and getting free pointies. Plus, more extra pointies were given to those wearing a bird set !

A major feature was the Bird lottery and the Achievement Hunter games. The bird lottery allowed you to buy up to 20 lottery tickets for yourself, and if you were lucky enough you would get silhouttes or pointies !

There were also great contests which people enthusiastically took part in to show off their skills. The voting is still are going on, so you can join in too ! In addition, members able to successfully complete the RTZI bird festival challenge got a Greater Adjutant silhouette ! The final interesting addition was Martha the Passenger Pigeon game. Have you found her yet?

The staff also made the Easter Egg Hunt, where for two days members had to find a very reclusive egg. Upon finding, the finder either got a Bilby, a Chick, a Chocolate Easter Bunny or an Oviraptor. To celebrate Mother's day, the staff released the Maiasaura, which means 'Good Mother Lizard', for one week.

The designing contest in which famed designers took part, was one of the most closely called contests of TRT, as all the entries of beautiful birds were amazing! The Palawan Peacock Pheasant, the Blue Jay, Fiery billed Aracari and many other awesome birds were released. The Blue Jay won first place, created by DinosaurMan. Finally the festival of Birds going to end on 4th of June. We bid the Birds goodbye.

General:
Philippine Tarsiers are primates endemic to the Philippine archipelago. They are very shy, which makes them difficult to study. They are nocturnal, and sleep during the day in hollows close to the ground. Tarsiers are arboreal and have the ability to leap from branch to branch. They can also cling almost vertically to trees. Because they are solitary, they have a polygamous mating system.

Tarsiers have rough fur which is normally dark brown. Their narrow tail is almost bald, and almost twice its body length. This allows the Tarsier to jump nearly three meters up in the air.

Habitat:
The Tarsier's habitat can be any type of forest, but they thrive better in lowland tropical environments because of the tall grasses and bushes that offer Tarsiers protection from predators. Philippine Tarsiers are distributed across a number of islands in the southern Philippines including Bohol, Samar, Leyte and Mindanao

Diet:
Tarsiers are unique as they are the only purely carnivorous primate. Philippine Tarsiers eat a wide variety of food, the bulk of their diet being made up of insects, but sometimes preying on other small vertebrates, like frogs, lizards and even small birds. The long fingers of the Tarsier enable it to trap flying prey in the air in between its hands, which prevents the prey from escaping before the Tarsier has killed it. Tarsiers have very large mouths for their size, which allows them to be able to eat large prey.

Some species of Tarsier are even able to hunt venemous snakes, and catch bats in mid-air!

Threats:

Due to their small size, many animal in its ecosystem prey on Tarsiers. Cats, Raptors and large Snakes are all included amongst the Tarsier's natural predators, although they are often able to escape danger by jumping from branch to branch.

Tarsier populations are at their greatest risk from humans, due to degradation of their habitat. Deforestation to make way for agriculture poses the greatest danger to Tarsiers, as the industry of Palm Oil becomes ever greater. Unfortunately, many are captured in the illegal pet trade, and die within a few days due to malnutrition.

Weight & Length:

The Philippine Tarsiers average between 8.5 and 16 cm in height from head to tail, making them one of the smallest primates in the world. This also makes them incredibly hard to spot.

Male Philippine Tarsiers are normally heavier than females, as males have been reported to weight between 80 and 160 g which is considerably heavier than other Tarsiers.

Zoo Guidelines:

Philippine Tarsiers do not cope well with captivity. If Tarsiers become unhappy, many are known to "commit suicide" by banging their heads against something hard, such as their exhibit wall. Many tarsiers seized from the wilds and placed in captivity survive only for two to five years, and no extensive population of Philippine Tarsiers has ever been formed in captivity.

If, however, a zoo wishes to exhibit Tarsiers, it is important that the primates are more of a priority than the zoo guests. Allowing guests to get too close to them can cause unneccessary stress and can lead to death, so it is suggested they are kept in a quiet, less popular section of the zoo. The enclosure needs to have many trees or upright logs for Tarsiers to jump on, and there needs to be suitable sleeping areas, or the Tarsier will become stressed.

Roleplay Forum

TRT has a very interactive and elaborate place known as the roleplay forum. The roleplayers seem to go to other sites for Roleplay, instead of this site. The staff encourages you to enter and participate in many roleplays with good ideas, which go unnoticed. It will be great for the members to have great storylines prepared by others for their roleplays.

If you are really interested, then become more active in other roleplays until you are confident enough to make your own roleplays. Often new roleplay topics go unnoticed after being unseen for many days. So, members of TRT, please go to the Roleplay forum and make it as active as other sections of our TRT. Thank you for your cooperation.

Interested in helping out the forum? Well there are several things you can do to help us out!

1. Join the Newsletter Team! All the above posts were written this month, and next month you could be one of the writers! Post in the Staff PM Box and tell us what you would like to do, and we'll get you into something.
2. Report stuff. If you see something that is against the site rules, then just click that little report button so that we can see it ASAP. We can't be everywhere at once, so the sooner you let us know about it the better
3. Assist. If you see someone who needs help, has a question, or isn't following the rules, kindly help them out if you can. Often times a staff will still follow up behind you, but we always appreciate seeing members helping each other out.
4. Be active. The more you post, and make topics, the more others can post and that will open more doors for you to post!
5. Be friendly. PM people, welcome people, and be patient with everyone, especially newer members. Remember, if you're kind to people, its very likely they'll be kind to you
6. Submit Downloads. We have a nice download center so we mine as well get as many downloads as we can in it. We also have good download managers, so we had mine as well keep them busy too
7. Offer your help in the Staff PM Box. Let us know if you are available and we may just have something for you that would take a lot of pressure off of us.
