I'm not slow! That's just my moe!

I know there are a great many reptile owners here and I would like some advice
I've narrowed it down to a few tanks that fit my room best, and from here the choice relies on my choice of species
I've got a lot of options in mind, and a lot of options already ruled out
I have done lots of research and indeed will do more
I've gotten opinions from staff at pet stores and I'd like to hear as many opinions/suggestions as possible

this will be my first real attempt at a terrestrial setup
since my turtles are aquatic, they live in standard fish tanks with land inserts xD
and my attempt at a hermit crab many years ago failed miserably (don't buy them on a whim thinking an empty fishtank will suffice, the lady at walmart said that and lied and my poor crab froze to death :'( )

I'd prefer something relatively hardy, good for beginners
something that likes to be handled is preferred, but not necessary
something that won't require more than 2 foot square of space, preferably 1 foot if it climbs
arboreal is preferred (since that would allow me the vertical tank which is much more convenient for me)

-I'm leaning heavily towards crested gecko(s?) as they come highly advised
-Terrena Laxamentum thanks for suggesting Whites tree frogs, after doing a little research they are now up high on my list
-I'm very interested in the idea of arboreal crabs

my mom has specified no snakes

I'm very curious about these species, in particular if any of these can be kept together (or with other species)
feel free to please suggest other species to me, I'm very interested to get many opinions to be sure I make the right choice for me and my new pet

I've had coconut crabs, iguanas, and monitors on my mind for a long while, obviously they are too large xD

Rat snake is love... Rat snake is life

Corn snake actually won't have much space issue. Snakes really don't need large space to thrive. Food would be much easier to prepared or kept if you use frozen rodents.

There is always something going on...

Have you considered some sort of hardy amphibian? White's Tree Frogs are very hardy and easy to handle.

actually I hadn't
dealing with aquatic/semi aquatic frogs all my life I had been under the impression any handling damaged their skin
I assume arboreal frogs (especially larger ones) have thicker skin?

my mom doesn't want to allow a snake as it turns out, its not fear of snakes per-se, she is paranoid they are good at escaping (x

Halloween crabs are an interesting species that Ive had the pleasure to work with a little.

1st off however, I dont know who told you that, but bearded dragons and crabs on any sort do not mix.

Halloween crabs are pretty simple to keep really, and they get pretty tame to the point of being handleable, so they'e rewarding for the effort it takes to keep them. They need a large area of brackish water to keep their gills wet in, while also providing them with moist sand to dig in.
While theyre not truly arboreal, Halloween crabs do however do a lot of climbing, and if you provided a branch or log i can guarantee they'd interact with it.

if you're concerned with space, I still recommend the Halloween crabs, as well as leopard geckos and whites tree frogs, because beardies do need fairly large enclosures.
I bet you could find care sheets for them somewhere.

The best way to not get your heart broken, is pretending you don't have one.

I was about to say, Beardies and Crabs getting along!?
What about hissing cockroaches? they don't need very much room at all and are easy to take care of.

yah, I had a babysitter who used to keep her bearded dragon in with a crab, probably rarely works out

I'm thinking either crested geckos or Whites tree frogs
but crabs are still very much on my mind

roaches (while cute indeed) are just not what I'm looking for I'm afraid

Well, I am not much of a herpetologist, but I would suggest a crab of some sort....

They are interesting pet's to keep, and I had three when I was around 4 years old. My sister is very good in these cases, probably I will ask her ;)

I also like the idea of a white tree frog actually. :)
