there are plenty of them around here I used to vacation up in Cape Breton, but a few ears back a woman was killed by coyotes not to far from the town where we have a cottage, so we haven't visited much anymore (that and the cottage is a dumb) the issue is that they are hybridizing with wolves (presumably due to low wolf populations) up in New Brunswick and then those coyotes breed with Nova Scotia coyotes, and before long the whole provincial population has become far more aggressive and larger from the wolf traits fortunately they still avoid urban centers, but who knows how long that will last Edited by stargatedalek, Jun 14 2014, 08:17 AM.

Going by the killed pets logic, we should destroy all vehicles, because of those kids who ran across the road and where killed by a car. Totally not fault of their parents who didn't pay attention to them ... Edited by Furka, Jun 14 2014, 08:18 AM.

These both posts scream to me "I know better, y'all should just shut up". ![]() Can coyotes get into a closed house? No. Keep your pets inside and they'll be safe. Self-defence killing is justified. Large-scale extermination just because humans disturbed natural balance time ago and now are dealing with the effects is not. |

no offense but can you read? I've had neighbors who had been attacked by coyotes they've even killed several people nearby in recent years I don't claim to be an expert, but I've seen them (wild and in zoo's), I've talked with actual fish and game employees about them (they do information projects and such at most campgrounds), and they are pretty common around much of the province its important to know about them around here for anyone who spends a great deal of time outside of urban centers |

Sorry, could you explain to me why the fact that we don't "live" with Coyotes means we don't know anything about them? Even in Europe, we have similar problems (Red Foxes mainly) and some of the same precautions are taken against them. My Guinea Pigs live outside, and where I live there is a whole load of Red Foxes. Foxes come into our garden every night. If I just left the Guinea Pigs outside most of them would be dead by now, but all 12 are still alive. Why? They're locked up in their hutches at night, with extra protection in front of the hutches to ensure that Foxes can't get in. My dog was always kept in at night for the same reason. I don't see why these precautions can't be taken by those with Coyote problems. @Konner: You took a risk letting the cats stay outside, and if you had kept them inside, they would not have been killed by Coyotes. You'd like for a Coyote to be killed because you didn't think of the consequences of letting your cats out? Coyotes are doing what they've always done. It's only now that humans have found the Coyote's way of surviving "an inconvenience" that they've suddenly become a problem. |

it is more than that (in some areas) they are a serious problem around here they are not only a risk to pets, they are unnaturally large and aggressive, leading them to attack people, they have also driven the red fox to near extirpation, and are a constant threat to the multitudes of endangered birds, and even turtles coyotes are nest raiders, sea birds and turtles are particularly at risk of being found by coyotes, raccoons aren't much better (but at least they aren't killing people) I was attacked by a raccoon once, it jumped off a roof at me and I ran Edited by stargatedalek, Jun 14 2014, 08:49 AM.
