If we let nature take it's course, the catfish would eat almost all the other fish species in the lake. It's what happened in the other places they were introduced, like the River Arno. And I don't need to tell you that's a big problem, which also has economical disadvantages (no fish, no people going fishing, no money except from the very few people who fish the catfish). Plus, the catfish are found not in the main lake yet, but in the system of marshes and channels around it. And in such smaller environments it's possible to remove them, it was done already. |

Nope, the water of the lake is too murky because of the algae proliferation, so you wouldn't see them. Plus, bows are illegal (there's plenty of stupid laws about hunting here ...) Best idea is to use nets or eletric stunner to catch them. |

If we let nature take it's course we let it take a path that has remained the same, life will evolve and adapt into a new ecosystem with Wels or it's new species to be the top predator or a new species will be a top predator... |

Which again would mean the rarefaction or total disappereance of whole species, including already endangered ones. And we should let that happen only because a few Aholes want to feel badass by catching large fishes ? No, thanks. The lake already has a lot of problems to face (eutrophication, killer algae, poachers, pollution, increase of salinity levels and plenty other invasive species) which are being worked on by the staff, and the catfish problem shall be dealt the same way. I mean for all of you who think catfish will eat everything, wont they die out. So imagine they bring the local fish population down then so will the catfish population due to the starvation. If the catfish population goes down then there will be less catfish hunting for prey meaning more fish. You can see the picture. I think now its a question of survival of the fitest. |

But the catfish doesn't survive simply on fish, they can also feed on invertebrates or scavenging on the bottom, or even resort to cannibalism (without disappearing, as the big ones will eat the small ones and then they'll breed again). Also, some fish species don't breed in the lake but in the sea and then they swim up into the lake (mullets, atherines), so there will always be some species that keep up the catfish population and allow them to eat the other ones.
