I have a bunch of other pictures from the Great Lakes Zoological Society on my iPhone (camera batteries died after a few shots D:), but I took these this weekend at the Detroit Zoo, which was the only place I wanted to visit/thing I wanted to do for my birthday.

We got to the zoo pretty late in the day (around 1PM), so a lot of the animals were sleeping or hiding from the sun and heat. It was also PACKED with other visitors and a ton of kids, so I didn't get to see everything I wanted to see, or spend as much time at each exhibit as I would have liked. Thankfully, the zoo is only 30 minutes from our house, and we go fairly often. Next time, we'll get there early and hopefully before the bulk of the crowds arrive (with all their screaming children!).

I really like it. I have a hard time truly enjoying zoos because I have conflicting feelings about keeping any animal in captivity (especially very large or very smart species), but I think the Detroit Zoo has done a very good job upgrading most of their habitats and providing a varied species list for guests to enjoy. They're starting a massive overhaul of the Penguin House, which was originally built in the 80s (and looks it), so that's pretty exciting. There's a lot of work going on right now for a new wolf exhibit as well, so I'm looking forward to that opening. I'd like to see the Free Flight aviary and Butterfly Garden get some financial attention though... They're both really great exhibits, but the building needs some repairs/upgrades.

Still, as far as zoos go, it's a good one in my opinion. :)

looks great! there is a lot of variety there, it seems. I especially love the emerald tree boa picture. Were these taken on your iphone? because they look really professional :)

No, I bought a Nikon Coolpix L830 before my trip to the Bahamas a few months ago. I have pictures on my iPhone from another reptile collection (a small-ish rescue called The Great Lakes Zoological Society, how grand! lol) that I haven't uploaded yet, along with a bunch from the Cranbrook Museum when they had dinosaur exhibit on loan, and we toured their nocturnal animals/bat show facility (I love bats!). I'll get them uploaded eventually, but the quality won't be nearly on par with these xD iPhone has it's limits.
