[anchor]top[/anchor][anchor]intro[/anchor] Written by: OkeanosWelcome to the June/July Newsletter! I apologise for the delay, I had an internet problem and was unable to post the newsletter, but it seems to be fixed now! Hooray! Thanks for waiting patiently! Due to the Marathon contest, we felt it was best that we combined the next newsletter with September's, to give the Newsletter Team members participating more time for both the Marathon and to make the newsletter as good as possible! Please enjoy, read, and come back in October for more!
[anchor]events[/anchor] Written by: Okeanos![]() After the Festival of the Birds, the staff team took a rest from all the excitement, but that's not to say nothing happened! We've had several exciting contests and games. The first of which was the Baby Animal game, in which members searched the forum for missing animals, and managed to keep them if they were lucky! ![]() Soon after, the Unusual Switch contest came into play. This was a very unique contest in which teams put forwards two ideas, and in turn received two ideas, which the teams then had to combine and build! Several very interesting entries were put forward, but Stephen and Zoocrazy came out on top with 'Val D'or: Centre de Conservation', with TheYeti and Swimming Spaghetti Monster coming in second with 'Xibalba', and in third Admiral General Aladeen and The Fluffy Raptor with 'Parasaurolophus Swamp'. Thank you to all who entered for making it a memorable contest! ![]() Recently the third Marathon contest, Animalia, started up, with the focus this time being on Animal Groups. We can't wait to see how the events unfold and hope for this Marathon to be the best one yet! Good luck to all participating! (Go Herps!) [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]awards[/anchor] Listed by: RobbieDue to the recent end to the Festival Of Birds, we have not got many contests recently. [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]spotlight[/anchor] Interviewed by: ZoocrazyThis month's interview is with the amazing Samuel! His designs are phenomenal, why not check them out? 1. When and how did you first become involved in the ZT community? I get to know the community when i see the first usermade download i knew off (Formidable Seas) that was posted in an argentinian site called Taringa. Once i discovered the rest of the usermade downloads i went like crazy from forum to forum downloading everything i could find The first forum i discoveres was ZT2 Designing Center, but i only registered there to download the mods and i never even make a post there Then i foun ZooHispania and it was the first forum where i become active and i started posting and interacting with other members.2. When did you start designing and what was your first project? I started designing for the game back in 2010. My first creation was the blue penguin. Back then i only knew basic skinning, so that download was basically the Radical Remake Rockhopper penguin painted in blue The i learned other designing skills like meshing, autorigging and coding, and of course i improved my skining techniques.3. How has the community changed you as a person? Have you allowed it to? How has the community changed me? Well for starts it helped me find other people with the same interest that i have. I then learned how to design and become part of a couple of designing teams. In all honesty, at first i was kind of afraid of posting in forum and talking to people in the internet because i thought everyone there were creeps or kidnapers So i guess i learned that the internet can be a place to make friends and learn stuff as well, and not only a place full of degenerates and weird people ![]() 4. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live? I would like to live in New Zealand. I loved their unique endemic fauna, their landscapes and their beaches. I think is the perfect place in the world for nature lovers like myself ![]() 5. What are your favorite animals? My favorite animals are pigeons, i absolutly love pigeons. My username in ZooHispania, chucha, is a word use to refer to pigeons in spanish (and not some nasty insult like the google translate wants you to believe ). I even have a pigeon as a pet. 6. When did you develop your love for animals? I've loved animals since i can remember, specially pigeons (in case i wasn't clear enough ). Once, when i was little, a tree was taken down in my street. When i went to look, i found two baby pigeons in the floor so i took them home with me. I took care of them. I fed them until they recovered, although unfortunally one of them died before reaching adulthood. The other one lived and then i released it.7. What do you want to be when you grow up? I would like to travel around the world, working as a nature journalist or filmaker for companies like NatGeo or Discovery Channel. That will allow me to be in close contact with nature and get to know exotic and beautiful places full of rare wildlife. 8. Are you a morning person or a night owl? I'm active both during the morning and late during the night, so i guess i'm a bit of both ![]() 9. Want to share any sneak peaks of anything? In this moment i don't have any current project going on. I'm working on some contest entry but i can't show that yet ![]() Nice to know a little more about you Samuel! You can find Samuel's project thread here! Welcome to all our returning staff members, and have fun Rafael! [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]news[/anchor] Reporter: Okeanos![]() That's right, Marathon has returned! This time teams will be competing against each other to prove once and for all which is the ruling group of animals! Birds, Herps, Marine, Carnivoran or Ungulates, who will win? The staff are all very excited to see the results of the month-long contest, and hope the members all enjoy themselves. We'd like to thank you all for those who applied for the competition, and we'd like to wish you all luck! [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]animal[/anchor] Written by: The Fluffy Raptor and Admiral General Aladeen![]() Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Reptilia Order: Squamata Family: Eublepharidae Genus: Eublepharis Species: macularius ![]() Range: ![]() General: The Leopard Gecko is one of the most common pet reptiles found today, and possibly the oldest. Leopard Geckos and the other Eublepharids are the only geckos to posses eyelids. Leopard Geckoes also lack the adhesive toepads of other geckos. These geckos are somewhat well known for their fat tails, which they use to store nutrients and fat. Leopard geckos, or as they're often called by keepers of the animals, "Leos" are mostly nocturnal animals, and do most of their hunting and wandering under the cover of dusk or dark. Leopard geckos are also well known for their characteristic black spots, although selective breeding has produced many variants, or morphs, of the species. This, their docile nature, and their easy care make them desirable as pets. Habitat: The leopard gecko hails from the deserts of the Middle East including Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, parts of Asia, and India. These deserts can be very rocky and mountainous, which is where Leopard geckos will be found in their burrows. Diet: In the wild, Leopard Geckos feed on moths, spiders, ants, and other insects they can catch. In captivity, Leopard geckos can be fed crickets, mealworms, waxworms, and large individuals can handle pinky mice. Threats: Leopard Geckos fortunately are only truly threatened by natural predators. Wild populations are relatively unffaceted by humans, although more research could be used to be sure. Predators of leopard geckos include snakes, foxes and other large reptiles, as well as birds of prey. Leopard Geckos, like many other lizards, have the ability to drop their tails as a defense mechanism. The regrown tail will always be more bulbous than the first. Weight & Length: Length: Adult geckos are about 20.5 to 27.5 cm (8.1 to 11 inches) in length, with 11 being a maximum, the average is 8 to 9. Adult Leopard geckos weigh about 45 to 65 grams, but longer individuals may weigh more. Zoo Guidelines: In a zoo, a leopard gecko above all needs a spacious terrarium and the right temperatures in which to live. Males should not be housed together, but groups of females and female/male combinations are acceptable. A substrate such as stone tiles is recommended, as geckos can lick up sand and become intestinally impacted, which can cause death in untreated. The terrarium should have plenty of hiding spots as well as decor like rocks and logs to simulate a natural environment. Geckos should be fed roughly every other day, on a diet of mealworms, crickets, etc. (See diet section) The ideal temperature in the tank should be 85 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit on the side that has the heating lamp or heat pad. The cooler side should be about 70 to 75 degrees. Pointies Animal: ![]() This animal is now available in our Pointies Shop. [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]questions[/anchor] Interviewed by: FlowerThis month, our interviewees are Okapi Rainforest, Orca Freak and Dacentru! Personal: 1) Pizza or Hamburger? Hamburger ~ Okapi Rainforest Deffinitly pizza. I love pizza Hawai or Bolognese; but the absolute best is pizza Pasta. For those who don't know the last one: it's a pizza with tomato sauce, peppers, a bit of corn and of course macaroni ~ Orca FreakHmm... Hard choice. I think I'll say Hambur...zza. Yes, Hamburzza! ~ Dacentru 2) Do you think math is fun? I think math is a very important subject to learn but do not enjoy it enough to call it fun ~ Okapi Rainforest Are you kidding me? I really really really love math It was my favorite subject during my school days. At high school I followed the highest math level you could find in Belgium. I was actually a bit sad I wasn't getting any math anymore when I went to university ~ Orca FreakYes! It's interesting when you learn new technics for problem solving. And problem solving is fun too ~ Dacentru 3) What extra curricular abilities do you have? Dancing? Signing? Drawing? What? Some include drawing, singing, and 3D Modeling ~ Okapi Rainforest I'm not entirly sure I understand this question correctly. Extra curricular abilities translates to Dutch as extra classes you take, or clubs you join during your school period, but that aren't part of your school. So, I'm done with school But if you just want to know if I'm a member of a sports/art club, or something like that. The aswer would be: I play bowling ~ Orca FreakNone, if going on TRT and playing games don't count ~ Dacentru Nature: 1) Are unattractive flowers of any interest to you? No ~ Okapi Rainforest I don't think flowers are unattractive. Most flowers I know even do their best to be as attractive as possible. But I'm not really interested in flowers. Those few times I help my mom in her garden, I'm pulling out the flowers and leave the weeds ~ Orca FreakYes, a flower is a flower and remains beautiful as the rest of the wildlife ~ Dacentru 2) Which is the smallest animal you would like to keep with you? Tamarin Monkey ~ Okapi Rainforest I think I would go for a garden dormouse (Eliomys quercinus) or a sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps). They are sooo cute ~ Orca FreakMaybe an Anglerfish or reptiles like Geckos or Chameleons ~ Dacentru 3) Are you scared of any everyday animal? Nope ~ Okapi Rainforest I'm terrified of spiders. For some reason I think they have a pair of leggs to many. (Strangely I don't have problems with centipedes or millipedes) ~ Orca Freak No, not in particular. But when I saw a spider of a big species (don't know the name) then just the idea of it living just above me give me chills! ~ Dacentru Community: 1) How would you feel when after many years you will come back to this site and see that you are the only one active there? People grow and move on so I know that at one point I must depart but I hope that we leave this community to new young and talented individuals, maybe as good or even better than us. If I were to slowly see myself as the only active member it would very disappointing ~ Okapi Rainforest Really sad ~ Orca FreakNostalgic. It happened to me... twice I think, on the forums where I got the more and most closest friends ~ Dacentru 2) Do you think you can change many download seekers into community interactive? I feel like the community has to be more open and friendly to new comers like it used to be. As long as us designers can get some feedback or comments on the things we release it's a thumbs up for me ~ Okapi Rainforest I try, but it's not as easy as it looks. Mostly I'm trying to convince the members of ZTSF (the Dutch Forum) to become active internationally. But not many are interested and I don't know why ~ Orca FreakHmm... I don't know. I think I won't have the courage to talk to some because I'm a bit (or more) shy ~ Dacentru 3) What about the ZT2 community still attracts you? The amazing talent in meshing and the advancements that we achieve regardless of the barriers that lie between us and our goal ~ Okapi Rainforest I think almost everything: from the many downloads that are available, too having a place to talk to friends about a game you both like. And that there are people out there that are prepared to teach you new things, like designing. But also the fact you get to know people from all over the world; and probably a lot of other things I forgot to mention ~ Orca FreakEverything : the S&Ts, the edited pictures, the friends I have there, the knowledge it gave to me, and maybe more the amazing designers that we have around and that give their fabulous work to the public. I'll never thank them enough ~ Dacentru [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]poll[/anchor] Poll by: OkeanosWhat is your favourite day of the week?
