oh les échardes

I've watched Blackfish in Netflix. It just changed the way I saw Sea World. Now Tilikun lies in a small tank, alone.Thats what happens always in animal attacks.
One month ago, a boy invaded the tiger enclosure saffety area ,in the Zoo de Cascavel, and started playing and touching the tiger. The tiger ate his arm. Now the tiger is alone,on a small cage. When an animal attack, its always when humans start playing with animal instincts.

The boy began to play with the tiger as if he were a cat .The animal is already stressed by being in a small cage, away from his natural habitat, surrounded by people shouting, and even a boy appears and starts to give him bones chicken with the tiger was a pet?
With Tilikun was the same coisa.Mas now, the situation is worse because the whale was trapped for life, and the rest of iy, will be isolated, iThe Killer Whalen a tank.is thousands of miles from their habitat, away family, having to do things that are not of his natural behavior .Its obvious that something will go wrong.

It's great to see that Sea World is trying to improve, but I think there is still much to do, not only at Sea World, but in zoos and animal parks entire community. I mean IF Sea World do all that is promising.

not all of Tilikum's attacks were provoked
the most recent/most famous was most certainly not a provoked attack

It doesn't need to be provoked.Only the fact of staying on a small tank is stressful, and may cause an attack.

You mean Dawn? Everyone knew not to get near Tilikium, especially alone. Like I said, considering how intelligent they are, I don't think it's outreaching to say they are capable of hatred (usually a human-based emotion) but I'd say that Tilikium hates humans and other whales after his capture, so he doesn't need to be provoked.

The two attacks shown during shows seems to be the orcas communicating and scheming to me, they showed two attacks in blackfish that happened during shows.

One where a trainer was riding along the backs of one of the whales and another seemingly on purpose leapt out of the water and slammed into the other to crush the trainer between them.

And another was the standing on the nose trick as the orca leaps out of the water. I still stand by that they are trying to "avenge" themselves for treatment though.

some more specifics on Tilikum;

attack #2 is almost humorous in an ironic sense

I've also heard of orca accidentally drowning people during play

I have some ideas for cetacean habitats that would almost make these conditions obsolete but there are probably some problems with my ideas and I doubt anyone would listen to me.

Just tell'em to us,Diablo! :3

Tilikun had a hard life.He lost his mom,and suffered a lot in Sealand(They use a food holding technique .Tilikum, who was inexperienced, roamed his tricks and ended up doing all the other orcas and henot to receive food. So,the other orcas attacked him.)That caused the first attack(and death). That's why he hates humans and other orcas.
But then, why not to kill him?
Becouse he can make baby orcas, lot's of baby orcas and they value lot's of money.Even though it is illegal to reproduce orcas that have attacked (or killed) humans, Sea World did it.

Well my ideas would involve taking maybe 20 acres in the water by the beach and making a half circle with glass or rocks around the 20 acres so the orcas could have some room to form pods and have some behaviors found in the wild. There are probably a lot of holes in this idea though.

(IIRC) its illegal to breed orcas that have attacked, not to use their genetic material to impregnate a female

Oh definitely. They do so much good in the world it's ridiculous.
was that sarcasm?
you do realize they spend millions of dollars on marine conservation every year? hire hundreds of personal to work at rescue centers? and form long term career pathways for hundreds of rescue volunteers so they can get jobs doing what they love helping animals?

they fund nearly every rescue on the Florida coast!

in a way it is ridiculous, that they can do so much good outside their parks and have such poor conditions within them
(in regards to orcas, pretty well every other animal receives exemplary care)

Of course it wasn't sarcasm, so back off.

I was using "ridiculous" sarcastically, as everyone does... obviously I know everything you said about that, and hence my post in the first place.

I hate to bump a sort of old topic but as someone who is studying psychology and zoology there are a couple falsehoods and misinformation that I would like to clear up here -

1. We do not know what Killer Whale's are thinking. We do not have a magic device that lets us understand what they think, in captivity or in the wild.

2. The only whale that was actually 'caught' by SeaWorld was Kasatka. After her, SeaWorld stopped. There was never a court order banning SeaWorld from the state of Washington. They voluntarily removed themselves.

3. It is not illegal to have Tilikum reproduce. That makes no sense at all. There is no information in the scientific or zoological community that suggests that an aggressive animal will pass down those aggressive genes to his/her offspring. For example, Nakai is probably one of the most docile whales at SeaWorld and his mother was Kasatka who has a history of aggression. It doesn't make sense.

4. It is illegal to import wild marine animals into the United States since the early 70's.

5. Releasing these animals would mean an automatic death sentence for the animals. The ones born in captivity had no chance and the ones who have been there for more than twenty years hold no chance either. It cost 25 million dollars to release Keiko and that was pretty much a complete failure. He swam past pods of other Orca's, not caring to interact with them. He was never observed catching his own fish. He swam straight for a Fjord in Norway where children jumped in the water and rode on his back. He bumped boats, constantly craving human affection. The Norwegian government finally put a stop to it and Keiko was brought back into human care where just a few days later, died.

6. SeaWorld's animals are not forced to do anything. I just recently took a trip to SeaWorld in Orlando. Our first show of the day was cancelled because, and I quote "The animal's really do not feel like it right now, and that is just fine with us." They are fed fish no matter what as well as other enrichment items. The trainers also have never ending love for their animals and you can see that in the way they look at them.

SeaWorld isn't a terrible place and I can honestly say that Blackfish is crap. Do your own research.

I haven't seen Blackfish but i just don't agree on keeping large social and inteligent marine mammals such as dolphins in captivity and train them to entertain people. I know that the ones that were born and grow up in captivity have no chances to survive in the wild, but why keep breeding them if not for the profit they make from shows? There is no need to keep housing these kind of marine animals in captivity except for rehabilitation or rescue purposes. Even if Sea World takes good care of their animals they are still missing a lot of things that they need and only the life in the wild can provide. These animals still will live a short life because of this (comparing the lifespans with wild animals that is).
