Well one way would be to make the texture greyer so you can store more contrast, and then drive up the material's lighting to make the ingame result brighter.

Another possible solution might be using uncompressed DDS so you don't lose the fine nuances?

Yeah, I think the texture should be a bit softer and lighter, more greyish, that will make it look more like this http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/zt2downloadlibrary/images/e/ec/Proboscis_Monkey_(Jannick).png/revision/latest?cb=20150203230850 giving it a softer look :)

So Yukon says more texture and ZooZa says less textue :P
In fact my original skin was grey with a soft texture, but it was practically one color ingame so I had to sharpen it, then I had to make it lighter otherwise it was too dark.
I'll try out HENDRIX's solutions and see how it goes.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention, play with the mipmap settings when saving the DDS. The appearance of the skin when further away can be altered depending on which filter is used to create the mipmaps. You can pick that filter in most programs.

Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha maybe?

I have been affectionately calling this the middle of nowhere mini pack.
The islands of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha are very remote. Their flora and fauna is rather unique, and for this pack
The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
This magnificent Fish is massive (the size if a Marlin) and fast. They are an endangered species, with their population once on the verge of collapse, Model and textures by Jannick and ludzoo
The Inaccessible Island Rail
The smallest living flightless Bird, they were luck that inaccessible Island never had any introduced Predators, sparing the the fate of the Stephen's Island Wren, and other small rails; Model and Textures by Samuel
Saint Helena Plover
This shorebird is critically endangered, and the national Bird of Saint Helena. Found mainly in open areas, it is among the last native faunal remnants of the remote island Napoleon was exiled to after his defeat at waterloo; model by Jannick, Textures by ZTabc
Gough Island Tree Fern
This Small tree fern covers the grasslands of Gough Island; Model by Thom and Sophie
Ascension Island Parsley Fern
This tiny plant is no only found on a remote ridge on Ascension Island. Once beleived to be extinct four plants were discovered growing in between volcanic bolders; model by Thom
Still one more to reveal, it is a rail, living on Gough Island

Release:
Arctic Fox

DOWNLOAD

Credits again:
-Model: base by HENDRIX, edits by Whalebite & lgcfm with help from HENDRIX
-Skin: lgcfm with small details from HENDRIX's original skin
-Coding: base by HENDRIX, edited by lgcfm with (a lot of) help from HENDRIX

Sorry I didn't edit this further, to be honest I was getting tired of working on it and it doesn't have any big issues so here it is. It's all PD so you are free to use the seasonal coding for other animals, edit the skin/model and release it, or even make your own Arctic fox with this coding, I don't mind.

Molting calendar (ingame months, approximate):

Jan-Mar = winter
Apr = molting
May-Aug = summer
Sep = molting
Oct-Dec = winter
Individuals will change to the correct skin when placed, after placement they will change accordingly. This also applies to animals born in the zoo. though they are always born in summer skin. Molting skin lasts a little less than a month, about ~20 days.

Hope you like it, let me know if there are any issues.
