Winners never quit, and quitters never win

I've decided to show some cute pics of my pet and maybe even my brother's. So, the million dollar question is, "What is you're pet anyway  " Well, I own a male 1 1/2 year old Syrian ( or better known as teddy bear) hamster. His name is Hobbes (After the comic character (x ) because his coloration is almost Tiger like. I had bouts with various pets such as two beta fish (Who died almost instantly :'( ) and before hand my first hamster named Gravity, who lived a good three years. So without further ado... Here's Hobbes!

I seriously hope you did the reading first and kept them separate in appropriately sized tanks with filtration and food. Otherwise, they just probably killed eachother.

On another note, Hobbes is uber cute. Reminds me of my own old Syrian Hamster.

Sorry about the confusion! I got the first fish for my kindergarten graduation. After it died my parents gave me another one. They both were kept in proper tanks.

Hobbes is a little weird, as long as I'm holding him, he'll almost always sleep in my hand. Here's an edited pic of him sleeping.

I kinda liked the grey background so I kept it. Anyways...
While pets are asleep, owners will play.

Yes...I was that bord and he was that asleep to pose for the camera :P

The first pic reminds me of hamsters playing dead when scared/distressed :P

Though my first hamster actually had a habit of seeking contact with me then pushing himself into my sleeve and sleeping there. Habits...

I've never seen a hamster play dead like that before, at least not with mine :P Both Gravity and Hobbes liked to sleep in my hands, but as soon as you hand them over to someone like my mom they just won't fall asleep xD

That's a sign of attachment I think. They recognize your touch and smell as familiar and feel comfortable resting there.

So just this Tuesday, my mom suprised me with a little budgie she got for free. He's obviously still a little shy, so we'll have to let him get used to his environment. He's quite the musician though, chirping day and night :P

This budgie looks really intereting. He's very colourful :D
But does he live alone?

Unfortunately, yes. We've previously cared for budgies before, so we know the how to of budgie care. But my dad *cough* hates *cough* animals so we can't get another to keep him company :( But we do have a soundtrack of budgies chirping, and he likes to chirp along to that :)

If he's male and lives alone consider moving him to the living room where he has the TV and people to "talk to"

Thank you for the set, Azrael!

He's very pretty. Beautiful markings!

I love budgies - we have four.

He may not live too long by himself, though. They're very social animals and go a bit insane (either this or they stop eating out of depression) pretty quickly without companionship unless they're young and learn to bond with humans. Most won't do so if they aren't socialized as babies, though. :( We found our first parakeet, Arthur, lost outdoors, and we tried to tame him for a few months but he got more and more distant and would only sit all day long with a clearly forlorn expression. After a while he stopped eating and we decided we needed to get him a companion... well, eventually that became three companions.

But he became a whole new bird with friends. You'd never know he was the sad little creature we first knew him as now!

Arthur is the green - his now best friend Sydney is the blue.

If you aren't able to get him a friend, a big mirror might help him. I'd also recommend a lot more toys he can chew or rip or bounce around. My birds love those shiny plastic disco ball toys sold at Petsmart, the interconnected plastic rings (they love to wind through them like little snakes), and the springy plastic balls with bells inside them too. They also love to tear up newspaper. If he is alone, the more enrichment available to him the better.

Ensure he has access to natural sunlight. He needs it to produce vitamin D and keep his bones strong and feathers healthy. A dark interior room is not suitable for a budgie without at least supplemental full-spectrum light - normal light bulbs aren't good enough for birds.
