Silky Sifaka ~ Propithecus candidus![]() General Information Class: Mammalia Order: Primates Family: Indriidae Genus: Propithecus Species: Propithecus Location and Habitat Silky Sifaka prefer high elevation Tropical rainforests Conservation Status ![]() Sizes
In Zoos Type of Exhibit: (In which type of exhibit should the animal be kept in?) The Silky Sifaka has never been shown in a zoo or captivity before. Therefore references on type of exhibit are based upon similar species such as the Diademed Sifaka. They should be kept in a large exhibit (preferablly an aviary.) The exhibit should have lots of climbing tools and branches. Along with this a breeding area and indoor habitat are highly recommended for this rare species. Temperament: Silky Sifakas have not been recorded in captivity so temperament is unknown. Diet: Silky Sifakas eat like other east island sifakas with diets containing mostly of leaves and seeds. Social Needs: Silky Sifakas in the wild live of groups from 2-9. If you are lucky enough to get a silky sifaka in your zoo it is recommended to have a breeding partner for it. Reproduction: Silky Sifakas have not bred in captivity although in the wild they are seasonal breeders meaning that the female gives birth to one baby every other year. Extra Information:
