What smaller species could work in a beach style enclosure with pelicans? Note the exhibit is specifically designed for pelicans, but if there is a species that is pelican sized or smaller I'd love to know what it is. ;)

@glowfish: Turtles and crocodiles can generally be kept together without too much trouble.

@Esser: Storks and swans should be fine, I think I've also seen them with cormorants but I'm not 100% sure. If you have an aviary, smaller flying birds such as terns or gulls are an option too.

Depends if it is housed in fresh or salt water.
Debating between. I'd like some ideas for either one. Leaning toward Fresh.
If you go for freshwater, I've seen West Indian Manatees often housed with amazonian fish like arapaimas, redtail catfish and tambaqui. You could probably do the same with some Everglades species like bass, catfish, red drum, tarpon and gars. Some freshwater turtles could fit there too.

A piece of toast and a terminator.

Can tamanduas live in an aviary housing tropical birds, such as macaws, birds-of-paradise, and tropical waterfowl?

(Also, can hornbills live with this combination?)

Aside from the geographical inconsistencies, you should be fine, though Tamanduas are shy and probably will be tough to see. I would be careful with adding hornbills to any combination, since especially the larger species can be quite predatory, not to mention aggressive to visitors during the breeding season.

I believe so, I have seen sloths in tropical aviaries and I don't think the tamandua will trouble the birds too much and vice verse. :)

Could you combine Spotted Hyenas and any species of african vulture

If you don't mind the vultures being eaten: yes.

Combining predators with birds of any species is always tricky. You need to make a aviary so they can't fly away and when being on the ground, the hyenas could always get close really soon. I at least wouldn't try it. Even well fed lions catch a duck/heron when they get the chance. Yes in the wild the can be spotted together when eating a prey, but with no food laying around, I think it wouldn't take long before the hyenas wil try the vultures.

Is it possible to combine Sun Bears, Binturongs and Malyan Tapirs in a big exhibit (big so that they don't have to see each other/eat together)? From the first two I know it is possible, but I wanted to know if it is possible to add the Tapirs.

I would not… Not the bears at least. Binturong might do since they are in the trees most of the time. AZA published a good care manual on Tapir, including a mixed-exhibit section. ;)

Actually, yes that would be possible. South Lakes Safari Zoo keeps spectacled bears and lowland tapirs together (along with spider monkeys, capibara and asian small-clawed otter) in a very spacious exhibit. As long as it's large enough, it'd definitely fit, certainly with the sun bear's rather passive nature. Have separation pens for all species, though.

Is it a good idea to mix hornbills with smaller birds such as pigeons or partridges?

How would western lowland gorillas and red river hogs fare together? Providing the hogs are prevented from roaming the entire exhibit?
