The Debate group is for serious stuff, not for ZT2 discussions.

Yeah it was more of a joke not an actual suggestion to join the group.

Are there any species I could keep with African Penguins? I had a cool idea, but I wanted there to be a few non-focus species for ambiance.

I know they are kept with cormorants and waterfowl at times.

I would think multiple species of sea birds? Puffins, pelicans and other penguins could work with them or maybe Auks, Gulls, Terns.

Prior to the opening of African Grasslands, Omaha kept them with giraffes and zebras.

Budapest keeps them with Harbour Seals

I've seen them kept with cormorants, white pelicans, and brown pelicans, and alternatively with little blue penguins and rockhopper penguins.

Artis is trying to keep them with Eiders and Californian Sea Lions. If you want to be a bit more geografical accurate you could combine them with Fur Seals instead.

I believe fur seals generally tend to have a more agressive disposition than California sea lions, which are quite docile as far as eared seals go. Penguins are also a regular component of their diet in the wild, especially the Cape fur seal. I think the best course of action would be to keep it with other seabirds - cormorants, gannets etc.

Yeah a lot of seals typically prey on penguins and other seabirds so I think your range of choices considering seals is small. Some seals have even been seen raping penguins. If you really wanted a seal with your penguins you'd have to find one that doesn't have penguins in their regular diet like Habour or Harp seals.

No good hero is a one-trick phony.

Thoughts on keeping emus with medium-sized marsupials?

I've seen them with wallaroos and many Australian zoos keep them with wallabies.

Emus should work with just about any herbivorous marsupial: Wombat, Wallaby, Koala or Tree Kangaroo
Probably not Kangaroos though because they can get territorial.
Perhaps even a monotreme like an Echidna

Pistoia keeps them with red-necked wallabies and red kangaroos, while Rome has them with Bennet's wallaby and Cape Barren geese.

I've seen them kept with lesser rhea, wallabys, and bald eagles.
