History is indeed little more than the register of the crimes, follies, and misfortunes of mankind.

That will work I’ve seen many zoos who combine storks, pheasants, and muntjacs all together. Edited by Deerfad, Jan 17 2018, 10:03 PM.

I am building a kids zoo. I have your basic kid zoo animals goats, chickens, pigs, rabbits and ponies . What else can be included in a kids zoo. I am wanting to add a small monkey but I don't know what type. Where I live at we have a wallaroo in a petting zoo environment. What else is there. Thanks. |

SDZ has squirrel monkeys, I'd recommend tamarins or marmosets. |

Llamas, camels, deer, waterfowl, barn owls and even a rat or mouse exhibit. There are endless possibilities for a children's zoo/farm section. |

Hi!

Meerkats, prairie dogs, coati, and tortoises are all good for kids zoos in my opinion ![]() You should have an area where people pet baby jaguar cubs! I would love that Is it possible if I could combine a grizzly bear with a bobcat and a pack of wolves, along with a coyote? I think it'd be cool to have a Yellowstone predator setup Edited by Panthera-Onca, Jan 25 2018, 12:42 AM.

No to both. It would stress the living crap out of the cubs to pet by thousands of people. Grizzly Bears can easily murder any of those, so if you want a Yellowstone setup, have them in different but nearby habitats. I know a zoo does have wolves and grizzles, but I wouldn't do it Edited by Goldblum, Jan 25 2018, 10:03 AM.

Brown bear and wolves have been combined in Europe (more than once I believe), and bear + lynx or wolverine has been done too. The smaller predator are quick enough to avoid an angry bear if they have enough space. I would definately not put all of those together tho. Bobcat and coyote would fight, and wolves would kill both. Edited by Furka, Jan 25 2018, 10:09 AM.

I've never seen it done with jaguars, but tiger cub petting has been done successfully before. |

It can be done, but it isn't good for the animals (I've seen it in SA once) Edited by Goldblum, Jan 25 2018, 11:25 AM.

Thank you everyone for the ideas. Love the baby animal idea. But instead of them petting them maybe a nursery where they can watch them grow and play. I saw something like that with a cheetah cub Wish I had baby animal toys now. |

Nothing about separating baby cats and letting people pet them is ever succesful. In fact it's illegal in most of Europe, and zoos have legitimately been shut down for doing so (last year even). It's definitely possible (and profitable) to do, but cats that are regularly handled often become very aggressive to other animals of their species (thus being useless in any kind of breeding program), have never learned how to properly hunt by their parents (and thus cannot pass that knowledge on to potential offspring, making them equally useless in any kind of breeding program), and even though they might seem cute they can still do damage... It's just asking for trouble. Don't do it. About combining bears, though, combinations of bears with canines like foxes and wolves (and smaller carnivores in general) are actually quite common. I believe the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum has also kept coyotes and mountain lions together, which might interest you. I wouldn't combine more than 2 carnivore species though, that's just asking for something explosive to happen. Why not have 4 seperate exhibits that the carnivores rotate through? A combination with a bear is cool, but accidents can still happen.

Gonna further that no on petting big cat cubs (or the young of any non-domesticated species, really.) It's stressful, unnatural, could lead to anxiety and potentially even developmental issues depending on how long the young are kept separate from the mother, and definitely would impact the well-being of the parent(s). All around it's just a bad idea and reeks of making money off of baby animals' vulnerability; if zoos want to present themselves as ethical at all (which they are already struggling with) they will hopefully not do that.

Hi!

Yeah I went to a place once and they had tiger cubs But I prefer jaguar cubs because jaguars are my favorite animals. I'm sad I can't combine the predators by the way but could elk get along with a bobcat?

What would even be the context of putting those two together? I'm gonna say no on that one.
