Definitely, that combination has been done often before! I'd make sure to give both species a separate indoor enclosure, though ;)

I went to western plains zoo earlier this year and they had all the plains animals in separate enclosures. African Elephants, Zebras, Rhinos, giraffes all had their own enclosures. Can they actually be kept together if the space was big enough?. I would have thought they would keep at least the zebra and giraffe together as they don't strike me as particularly aggressive animals.

They also kept the Asian and African Elephants in separate spaces, how would they go together? I'm wondering if they would ok if it was only females and no bulls.

Sorry if this has already been asked, I didn't particularly want to go through 188 pages to find if it had already been answered. Cheers all :)

Zebras and giraffes is possible. Some zoos have difficulty combining the species, but pretty often it works well. If the enclosure is big though, like in a safari, there's a reaaaally low chance of conflict, so that should make it easier as well. If I'm not mistaken, Burger's Zoo in the Netherlands keeps giraffes, zebras, some antelopes (waterbucks? springbok? impala?) and white rhinoceroses together.
EDIT: looked the exact combination up real quick, they have Rothschild's giraffes, Southern white rhinos, Grant's zebras, Ellipsen waterbucks, beisas, blue wildebeest, and roan antelopes.

Usually, African and Asian elephants are kept separately, unless for some sort of reason the elephants have formed a bond (for example, elephant that were kept together in a circus). I'd imagine this is done so it's easier for the animals to breed (baby elephants are a MAJOR source of publicity) without having the risk of bastard elephants.

TL;DR, both combinations are possible, but combining elephant species is generally avoided.

The San Diego Zoo keeps a pair of African and Asian Elephants together, but they aren't breeding pairs

To be honest, the risk of hybridization, although present; is minimal. The only case of proven African elephant - Asian elephant hybrid was Motty at Chester Zoo and it didn't live very long. Quite some zoos still keep African and Asian elephants together (Rabat and indeed San Diego come to my mind) although it is indeed to be avoided.

I believe a zoo in Sweden combines elephants with hoofstock and white rhinos. They have a huge enclosure.

Thanks everyone! I'll look up those zoos to get an idea of enclosure size, There are so many amazing animal downloads now you need every inch of space in your zoo to fit them all in :D

Yup, Boras Djurpark has elephants with Zebras, Elands, Blesbok, Giraffes , Ostriches and Buffalos. Their white rhinos are kept with cheetahs though.

Is it possible to put gharials with waterfowl or other birds since a gharial's diet consists of fish?

It has been done (with turtles also, IIRC) but I couldn't tell you which birds off the top of my head.

I'm most likely going to put the Indian Spot Billed Duck with the gharials. Thank you for your help :)

Are there any animals from Madagascar that can live with lemurs?

Malagasy Ibises, boky-boky, radiated tortoise, vasa parrot, rodriguez fruit bat all come to mind. Lots of birds can be combined with them although eggs will need to be hand raised as many lemur species eat eggs.

What would be a good small to medium sized Cretaceous pterosaur to exhibit in a mixed species aviary with Tupandactylus?
