I personally prefer the second, but only because Hagenbeck got this combination (only Giraffa camelopardalis rothschildi with some other species also). The first one I find interesting, but how aggressive are the males of the dromedaries during mating season? In Leipzig the Giraffe bull was frightened by a Nile Lechwe, which is much smaller. But I don't know, it's more of a question. |

Giraffes are fairly curious animals, so once they've come to known whatever they share their exhibit with, things should be fine. I've seen them kept with all sorts of hoofstock, ground hornbills, cranes, and even spurred tortoise. |

And also marabous. I've never seen a savannah exhibit with no marabous. |

Building a walkthrough called Le Sentier des Daims (The Path of the Fallow Deers), which has (duh! lol) Fallow Deers. ![]() I was wondering what species to mix with them. I was thinking of White-tailed deers and wallabies. Would it fit? I have seen wallabies and fallow deers once, but not sure about the White-tailed deers. What do you think? |

I think squirrels and waterfowl could go well. |

Eh I wouldn't risk fowl around people, lots of species are aggressive and/or shy. Honestly not sure about Whitetail either, I assume a "Hagenbeck" would be fine with them visible, but not able to be touched or something. I just don't think Odocoileus is exceptionally viable in that sort of situation, unless like they were fawns always around people. I've seen them in zoos of course, but they're very reclusive and don't like being around people. (in fact, the only exception to this was a crippled, piebald Odocoileus hemionus sitkensis that I had the pleasure to meet. Of course, she was just a baby at the time...) |

Turkeys are one of the most aggressive fowls around, not to mention pretty good size... |

If you want to add something with fallows, I'd go with mouflons. Perhaps red and roe deer too but be careful, roe deer are pretty elusive and might not like much company, and reds can be very aggressive during the mating season. Speaking of which, even fallow males can be dangerous to people in that time of the year. |

Based on two Canadian zoos i visited a couple times, Fallow deers should be perfect as long as there is an off-exhibit enclosure for them or be isolated if there is a need to do so (ex. mating season). I am not very worried since all animals have some agression potential (have you seen the vidéo of a pygmy goat head butting a kid in a Petting zoo?), some been less likely to attack if the are used to people as are most Fallow deers i have seen in the zoo i visited. I agree the White-tailed deers might not be the best choice, So i Will either sell or build a smaller exhibit for them (only got 2). I Will just add the wallabies with the Fallow deers. I think the other species I Will add Will be in small enclosures and aviairies alongside the path.

I don't know but as I can see you want to work with American species? In European Zoos I've seen them in walkthou exhibits keept together with red deers, sika deers, mufflons, hares and also with boars. |
