Is that doable ? I mean, I knew porcupines chew bones, so I was worried about the tortoise shell ... |

Patas monkeys would work well. |

With larger tortoises, yes, like Sulcata tortoises, but I think the porcupines might be a little too aggressive around anything smaller and slower then themselves. I mean, there are reports and videos of porcupines attempting to scare away honey badgers, so it's about a 50/50 chance for the exhibit to work with the given animals. The aviary would of course work though. Sadly there are no monkeys in Italy or that combo would work also. Edited by Consultant, Apr 19 2015, 09:20 PM.

I wonder if Greater One-horned Rhino and Gharal and one animal could fit? |

I'd say yes as long as the gharials have a private pond as well as one that the rhinos could get into. |

Are cheetas possible to combine with rhinos? Thought I read here they did this combination in Frence. Are there also other known combinations of predators/herbivore? |

@Furka, Rotterdam Zoo keeps their African Porcupines with Meerkats and Spurred Tortoises. While Spurred are bigger than Hermann's, I think it should work if you keep adult tortoises only. @Anders, Guereza are the most common combination, pretty much any African monkey other than baboons could work though. @Anders and Burns, to me that seems like a terrible idea. Gharials bask at the edge of the water for a good percentage of the day, and won't always notice the approaching Rhinos. I think we can all agree on the fact that a Rhino accidentally stepping on a rather fragile Crocodile would kill the Crocodile. @KoenZoo, yeah, that is possible. The only other combinations I could think of is where the animals don't actually ever really meet each other (Otters and Primates, etc.), or where the herbivores are a lot larger and/or would never be seen as a prey for the carnivores, in any given case (Manatees and Seals, etc.) Edited by Anton, Apr 20 2015, 11:12 AM.

Does anyone know what animal would go well with chimpanzees? |

I thought I read here before, that there are no possible combinations. I think they are also too active to be held together with other animals. |

Yes, I wouldn't put anything in a chimp exhibit. They would (try to) kill everything. |

Perhaps fish ? IIRC chimps cannot swim. Although they'd go unnoticed ... |

You can always make an island for the chimps, with ropes, so they can reach their indoor exhibit. In the water you place a large varity of species. But I should always make sure that the chimps can't reach the fish/mammals in the water. Chimps are smart, maybe they if they show interest in the fish, they could catch them. Just a thought, but a mix exhibit, with dolpins and chimps could be nice. |

I think dolphins and chimps is a catastrophal geographical mistake ![]() Also, @Koen Zoo, if you want it more interesting you can combine rhinos, cheetahs and patas monkeys. It would be a carnivore, herbivore, omnivore combination ![]() By the way, it's not an actual combination but Leipzig Zoo will open such a combination exhibit in less than two weeks. It's the first combination ever as I heard, so maybe it won't work but I in my opinion it's plausible that it will work because the three species have completely different behaviours. |
