1.) That should work perfectly 2.) I'm not sure if that really works, I'm a little affraid that the gorillas kill the young river hogs. 3.) Hippo and Sitatunga would work, but there's a zoo near my city which keeped hippos and zebras together, saddly the hippo bull killed the zebra stallion. But I'm not sure if flamingoes are really good animals to keep them together with hippos, flamingoes don't breed often and they are also really fragile, I think pelicans would be a little better. 4.) Black rhino and crane should work, also the baboons should work but not together wirth the cranes, they are definitly to aagressive. But I'm not sure about the gemsbok, I think they also shouldn't been keept together with the baboons. 5.) That should work if the warthogs have a exhibit for seperate them. The same for the wildbeests. 6.) I'm not sure at our local zoo our asian elephant bull is keep together with a group of male blackbucks. So I think maybe springbocks or some smaller antelopes would work? |

I know Giant Pandas are huge attraction and usually kept alone in exhibit, but are there any animals that could be combined with them? |

Having seen them at 4 different places (Shanghai Zoo, Chengdu Panda Reserve, Berlin Zoo and San Diego Zoo), I've never seen them combined with any other animal. The problem is that even though they're mainly herbivorous, eating bamboo, they'll also snack on meat, fish and eggs from time to time, as bamboo gives them little protein. In Chengdu Panda Reserve they do have quite a lot of Blue Peafowl roaming around, but I never saw any of them daring their way into one of the Giant Panda exhibits. I'd advise against having them share their enclosure, they're still technically bears

Pandas are more carnivorous than you'd think. To some extent I'd expect that it would be possible though (considering pretty much all bears, save for polar bears have been combined with other species). Most zoos however don't do this, just because the exhibit is about their beloved, leased, lame, Chinese bears. Also regarding the manatees asked earlier, manatees do not occur alongside smaller otters in the wild. I think combining them with smaller otters, such as small-clawed would be safe though. Species like the giant river otter however can be rather aggresive towards other species and they might be abe to cause some serious injuries. A better combination seems to be capybaras and manatees (Burgers' Zoo does this). Combining them with turtles, ducks and certain lizards wouldn't be a problem either I guess. Also, regarding hippos and sitatungas, hippos can be rather dangerous and are able to kill other species. Still they have been used in combination with antelopes quite some times. I'd say it'd be okay (and safe) as long as the antelopes have an area where they can retreat (ex. poles placed closely together, antelopes can walk through this barrier but hippos are too fat). Someone also mentioned anteaters. While they have been used in combination with many species (even maned wolves), you really have to be careful with those guys. They have sharp claws and can be quite moody. I recall hearing a story once about an anteater killing a male rhea. Lastly, I'd like to point out andersxhd's idea of combining cranes and baboons isn't very smart. If you ever watch BBC Earth, you'll see baboons killing and eating flamingoes which were capable of flying whereas your cranes (unless kept in an aviary) probably had their wings clipped. So yeah. Lol. Edited by Thierry Baudet, Dec 10 2014, 12:58 PM.

Yeah they are, but you still have to be very careful. There's a good reason that even large carnivores avoid anteaters. |

Giant groupers can be kept with pretty much most fish we have at the moment, as long as they have enough (better a lot) space and are well fed. Just look at the Georgia aquarium. |
