The hogs shouldn't be too troublesome to combine IIRC. I'd say monkeys or ungulates should work, but I'd avoid ground nesting birds. For the crocs, I don't think you can put them with anything, except turtles (but we lack african river turtles). Edited by Furka, Jun 9 2015, 08:34 AM.

Blijdorp keeps their Red river hogs with Red forest buffalo, I haven't really seen them with anything else actually. Crocodiles can indeed be combined with pretty much any medium/large turtle species, but also consider arboreal/aerial birds, bats and lizards (If they're large enough). |

IIRC I've seen savannah exhibits that also featured the hogs. |

For marine mammal enthusiasts: There's combos between sea lions and seals, belugas and seals, and even sea lions with dolphins. With some proper research there could be some cool combinations you can come up with. |

Turtles make great combo animals with other animals. Waterfowl ponds, crocodilian ponds (with caution), be creative. Tortoises (depending on species) go well with hoofstock, birds, small herbivorous mammals (rabbits, guinea pigs, etc), and even in some cases, large lizards. |

I don't think so, chimps are aggressive and over-active, okapis are extremely shy, and gorillas too dangerous to be housed with any of those. |

I remember reading that back in the 1980's, Taronga combined jackals with chimps. Even with escape hatches and etc., it obviously didn't work out. However, gorillas have been combined with monkeys, so I wouldn't say they're ALL dangerous (at least calmer than chimps). |

It's the juvenile male gorillas you should watch out for with anything. If you have a juvenile, you should at least have a silverback to manage it. |

As far as Red River Hogs go (sorry if this topic has passed ) I've seen them with Congo Buffalo, Eastern Bongo, Allen's Swamp Monkey, Lesser Spot-nosed Guenon, and Spotted-neck Otter (the buffalo, otter, monkeys, and hogs were all in the same exhibition @ San Diego). I'd arguably say they're the most combinable swine species, hahaha. There exists a combination of Gorilla, Blue Duiker, and some large African bird (maybe Congo Peafowl?). Patas Monkey is another viable option. Really though you needn't combine them for Gorillas are just interesting by themselves, hahaha. Edited by Fireplume, Jun 9 2015, 09:20 PM.

Detroit has a combo of bachelor gorillas and a few drills, and the gorillas don't seem to mind them

About combination with the chimps: I read about a German Zoo, which combined them with Hornbills and smaller birds. The horbill actually played with the younger chimps. But because he killed the other birds they took him out. (I think it was Osnabrück.) |

I thought it might work maybe because it allegedly was a gorilla / chimp hybrid in the zoo of Dresden in Germany. The name of the Hybrid was Mafuca.I do not think it's a good idea to hold together chimpanzees and small birds Edited by Urufu, Jun 10 2015, 06:10 AM.

Can a tree frog (of any species) be combined with a tropical tortoise in a horizontal tank if it has areas where the tortoise can't get to? |
