Do you guys think reindeer and moose can share exhibits? I have never seen it, but they basically live together in the wild.. ![]() Or is reindeer and muskox a better combination? Edited by fridooh, Dec 13 2014, 10:02 AM.

@BBBurns, as both are relatively large, and relatively agressive primates, I'd think they'd prefer to stay out of each other's way, with the aggression issues that brings. I wouldn't do it, and I don't think it has been done. @Fridooh, tough one. I've never seen either of the 2 before, but as they're both herbivores I don't think they'd mind each other too much. |

AFAIK Musk oxen can get rather cranky, so I would advise to give the reindeer a place to escape if you have to put them together. Moose and reindeer would be a better fit, provided the exhibit is large enough so they can stay out of each others way, especially during the rut. Would a combination of Dugongs and Proboscis monkeys or Crab-eating macaques work? |

I think it may work. Everything sounds fine but proboscis monkeys are pretty good swimmers so they might harass the dugongs. |

Smaller monkeys and manatees definitly work. But why do you want to keep dugongs them together with some monkey that can swim? :PI think the mooses would be a little to aggresive. The same haplens wkth the oxen. So I think it would be a better idea to keep them togehter with polar foxes or maybe wolverines. Edited by arafan, Dec 13 2014, 03:45 PM.

Musk Oxen can't be kept with anything due their aggressiveness. They're even mean to other Musk Oxen, and calves (in captivity at least) are killed all the time. Moose husbandry is fairly difficult, so combining them with Caribou probably isn't a good idea. Caribou and say, Roe Deer or Red Stag/Wapiti could work, however. |

Still need to be careful, as non castrated red deer males can be very aggressive. At a hunting reserve I have been, they have beaten the fallow deers and sent a worker to the hospital. |

That is interesting, I was basing my Red Stag choice on Wapiti, which I've seen combined with lots of other species including American Bison, Sandhill Cranes, Aoudad, and Guanaco. |

It's still possible to keep them together, if you pay attention. The red stags were beating the fallow because it was mating season and they had estabilished their arenas right at the only feeding station, where all the other animal had to go. |

I know a zoo wich keep musk ox together with polar foxes. A wolverine may be can be dangerous for a you deer but with a musk ox? I'm not sure. I've also heard that a zoo keept them together with european brown bears and wolfes. Here they often keep wisents with red deers and I've never heard about a problem. It depends on the animal individuals, I think. |

@Jannick: I would say no, because of the fact crab eating macaques and probiscis monkeys are found around fresh water, while dugongs are found in salt water. I think manatees would make a better combo, not taking their natural range into consideration. Also regarding orang utans and probiscis monkeys, orangs have been kept together with macaques and gibbons. I suppose (although they are a bit larger) probiscis monkeys shouldn't be a problem either. Also moose can be kept with other stuff, I recall Emmen used to house mooses alongside wood bisons and all kinds of birds. Regarding musk oxen, keeping them with foxes, arctic hares or anything smallish like that shouldn't be a problem. |
