Could I have a caribou exhibit and a Beluga tank in the same big area? Like have the Beluga tank forming a big U or something with a caribou island in the center. Would the two live peacefully together with both mammals occupying different habitats within one exhibit?

@Toastinator - No. Young caribou might fall into the water and possibly drown, cetaceans are very curious so the belugas won't hesitate to try and toy around with caribou in their tank. Also cetaceans need clean water and any caribou that fell in can get the water really dirty. Also belugas can't be combined with puffins as belugas, as said before, are very curious animals and will try to toy around with puffins. @Krampus - The ranges of belugas and puffins most certainly do overlap, both animals can be found near Greenland, but that's not the reason why they can't be combined together. Another Arctic question! Can I mix Horned puffins with Northern Sea otters? |

Big nope, otters and mustelidae in general are usually too vicious to be put together with something else. |

If you really have to combine your Puffins, do so with other Auk species, or perhaps eiders, gulls, terns, or maybe in a half-tank with some medium-sized fish and/or crabs, lobsters etc. I wouldn't combine beluga with anything other than cetaceans or smaller seals, either. |

I suppose the belgua-caribou thing could work but it's more a matter of why? If you made the sides of the pool very gradually sloped then it wouldn't matter if one of the caribou fell in, besides they're pretty good swimmers. But you also wouldn't want them paddling around in the water that the belugas have to swim in. There probably wouldn't be any positive interactions between the two. |

So what animals would go together with Baird's tapir? ![]() Also, can you mix different tapir species? Like Baird's together with Malayan?

Eh I wouldn't mix tapir for risk of inbreeding (might be wrong tho). As for Bairds, I'd say you can put them with monkeys if your exhibit allows that, or terrestrial birds and waterfowls (would say brocket deer, but I don't know if they are too shy for that). |

It's not exactly the same range but Baird's tapirs can go well with guanacoes/vicunjas, rheas, capybaras and greater maras, too, since I often see that combination with lowland tapirs and so I think it should work with Baird's tapirs, too. I also know a combination of lowland tapirs with coatis, this could be easily conceivable with Baird's tapirs as well. |

There are actually a lot of things you could combine them with. In my zoo I have them with tinamous and giant anteater. |

For those too lazy to search, the manual says this: rhea, capybara, vicuna, and other neotropical camelids brocket deer, waterfowl, wading birds, large tortoises, Patagonian cavies, giant anteater, primates, and even maned wolf. Asian tapirs may be successfully exhibited with muntjac, waterfowl, wading birds and cranes, and primates such as gibbons, langurs, and macaques. |
