[anchor]top[/anchor] [anchor]intro[/anchor] Written by: fridooh Hello and welcome once more to TRT monthly newsletter! It's been a while since last time, and we apologize for that, but hopefully the newsletters will keep coming every month from now on. We are leaving a major event behind us, the zoo tycoon 10 year anniversary. Christmas is also behind us, but that doesn't mean the staff is taking a rest - you haven't missed the Dino Festival, right? This newsletter is packed with excitement that you don't want to miss out on. We have created two new sections, one with game reviews and one with a brand new feature - newsletter ads. Sit back, relax and enjoy this months newsletter!
[anchor]events[/anchor] Written by: ZionEagle These recent weeks have been quite eventful at TRT. The members received quite the surprise, when the staff staged an elaborate prank to introduce a new festival, Date of the Dinosaurs! It all started when a mysterious member joined the Round Table, a.k.a DinoDating. It soon became obvious that DinoDating was troll, and the TRT staff wasted no time in dropping the ban hammer. But our troubles didn’t end there. Soon afterwards a meme appeared under every page at TRT stating, Date of the Dinosaurs Prepare for extinction Soon, some members began to panic as questions arose, “Is this DinoDating guy getting revenge on us for banning him?” “Is TRT going extinct?” Others deduced the staff were involved. Things got even more uptight when a “doomsday” timer appeared at the top of the page, counting down the minutes till TRT would go extinct. Not to mention DinoDating became sole Admin, and banned members such as Ravenna popped up again. Most people went into a panic attack, not knowing what would become of our beloved community, and all eyes were glued to the timer. Finally after a long, agonizing wait, the timer stopped and we got the shock of our lives….a new festival! Yes, turns out some the staff had been scheming this for a while. Although some members weren’t pleased with the method used to introduce the festival, I can guarantee we were pleased with the final result. From a new theme to fun contests, this festival will be one to remember! All the conservation statuses is up to date and some animal prizes has changed. You can read more about it here! And let's not forget that you now can buy a starter pack for your zoo - another new feature the RTZI managers have created for you. Check it out! Updated Silhouettes While looking through the Achievement Zoo Library, we noticed some particular silhouettes really needed an update. We hope you like the new silhouettes - but if not, they might be changed back.
Newsletter Advertising The newsletter now includes a new feature - Newsletter Advertising. If you want your website or topic to receive more attention than it's getting, you're able to create an ad in the newsletter. It's a great way to boost your views! You'll find all options and prizes here! New Rule Even though this is not really a new feature, it's good to announce this one more time. The site has been updated with a new rule; "Flaming || Flaming is not allowed anywhere on the board. If you are angry at someone, PM them and discuss it respectfully. Refrain from arguing to prevent the possibility of a flame war. If you are "false flaming", make sure that it is clear and that it is not taken offensively. Even if you mean it as a joke, it may be hurtful. Posting provoking posts knowing that could be potentially aggressive/offensive toward a specific group of people, attacking others people's beliefs/political stand points and constantly getting into fights will be considered as another way of flaming even if you don't mention anyone directly." [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]spotlight[/anchor] Interviewed by: Flower Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Talent of the Month. For this month our spotlight is.....*drumroll* Concavenator for his astoundingly wonderful 'What A Wonderful World' ingame photography project for ZT2 and other projects! 1. When and how did you first become involved in the ZT community? I discovered ZT2 about 9 years ago, but I didn't register in any forum until three years ago, when I discovered the DLC. I wasn't too good building zoos or taking pictures, so I didn't post anything and I simply comment on designing or zoobuildings topics. But when I started making national reserves, I discovered that I was good recreating ecosystems. The first thing I posted in a community was some pics based in the film The Lion King, But they weren't very successful. Then I started a new project, much more elaborated, Pleistocene Rewilding. That was the s&t who introduced me in the forums. 2. When did you start designing and what was your first project? (I have a question about this. I understand that with design you mean create the images, right?) I started to take pics when I bought African Adventure. My first images where so bad, with the original animals. When I discovered the DLC, the images became more realistic. I started to make individual photos, trying to make them better slowly. Using some hacks I put the animals in the position that I wanted. The first photos I took with this technique were The Lion King one's, but I consider my first project was Pleistocene Rewilding because it was unlike anything I had done before, with edited images using Photoshop, animal positions previously unseen... 3. How has the community changed you as a person? Have you allowed it to? The community changed me radically. The demand of realism in s&t has made me learn a lot, not just for zoo tycoon. I am an amateur illustrator and thanks to foreground editing the ZT2 photos, I have been improving my drawings. The community has changed me a lot personally. Previously I wasn't too social, but now I have made a lot of friends, and I hope to continue doing new ones. 4. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose to live? If I could live in other site, I would choose South Africa or elsewhere part of Africa. I love my country, but the spirit of Africa is calling me. I would love to live in a lodge in the middle of the savannah. 5. What are your favorite animals? My favorite animals are the mammals, specially the ruminants, carnivores and primates. But if I have to choose one, I would choose the lion. it's an incredible animal. I don't know why I admire it, maybe for its elegance, its power... 6. When did you develop your love for animals? Since I have memory, I've always loved animals. My parents bought me a lot of books of animals, and I grew up watching documentaries. I was not the typical child who wanted to go to a stadium to watch football or going to concerts, if not I asked my parents to take me to the zoo or museums. But when I really discovered my love to the animals was when I adopted my dog. 7. What do you want to be when you grow up? Initially I wanted to be veterinary or illustrator, but due to some reasons, such as certain documentaries and films such as Jurassic Park and Walking With Beasts, and since a few years ago my parents started to gift me fossils, I decided to be paleontologist. But combined with my ability to paint animals and dinosaurs, maybe I'll be a paleo-illustrator, who knows? 8. Are you a morning person or a night owl? As I haven't the eyes adapted to the dark, I absolutely prefer the day. 9. Want to share any sneak peaks of anything? Well, first I'll finish the long trip around the world in What A Wonderful World. Very soon we'll begin the journey through Africa, then we'll travel to Asia, to North America, South America, Oceania and Antarctica. In my next projects I'll show my zoos, and we'll stay traveling around the world, but not during this era... Also, this: It has been a pleasure to interview such a talent like you, Concaventor. We will surely check your What a Wonderful World topic. Until next time! [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]animal[/anchor] Written by: Admiral General Aladeen Banner: Macaw Mike Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Reptillia Order: Squamata Genus: Dracaena Species: D. guianensis Range: This species can be found in the countries of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and the Guianas. General: Caiman lizards are large, multicolored lizards in the Teiid family. They grow about 2-4 feet in length. Caiman lizards have backs lined with rough scutes, similar to a caiman's. They generally have a red and orange head that fades into a lime green body. Caiman lizards spend much of their time in the water, where they obtain their food. The have large, blunt heads for crushing their pray, and a forked tongue akin to other tegus and monitors. The Northern Caiman will often be seen clambering about in trees when it is not hunting in the water. Their numbers in the wild are relatively unknown but they do not seem to be in any danger. Habitat: Caiman lizards occupy a variety of watery habitats, including swamps, marshes, and flooded forests. Wherever food is available, they will go. Diet: Caiman lizards in the wild primarily prey upon snails, using their powerful jaws to crush them. Besides snails, they will also crunch apart clams, crustaceans, fish, and any small inhabitant of their freshwater habitat. They occasionally will eat turtles. Threats: Caiman lizards were heavily hunted for their leathery hides. However they are now protected, and captive establishments for leather have been made. In the wild they are probably preyed on by crocodilians and large snakes. Weight & Length: Length: 2-4 feet, 0.6-1.2 meters Weight: n/a ZT2 Animal Guidelines: In zoos, Caiman lizards must be provided a large, heated enclosure with plenty of room to swim as well as land. They would probably do better housed indoors due to their specific humidity and temperature needs. They will need large logs for climbing and basking, deep substrate for digging, and a deep pool which they can submerge and swim in. They are intelligent animals, and their enclosure must be secure. Pointies Animal: You can get the caiman lizard in our Pointies Shop [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]questions[/anchor] Interviewed by: Flower Hello everyone, it's your Newsletter writer Flower. I can assure you that this new year is a great year. We are having this wonderful Dinosaur Festival and in the festival mood, you shall get to know new people more, if you already haven't. For this month, we Interviewed Rowannus, ZionEagle, and our wonderful RTZI manager, Uolym. Personal: 1) The ZT2 game reached the age of ten years this November. Do you think it should get a new version, maybe ZT3? With all the awesome designs people have made, I don't think we really need a third one ~ ZionEagle Well, I am satisfied with how the game is now, including the downloads. So no, I don’t think there should come a new version. ~ Rowannus I am conflicted. In a way, having an improved zoo tycoon game and its expansions would be awesome, but is there anything the many skilled designers in the community can't do about it? Actually, they are doing a superb job updating ZT2 and improving it with new species and objects, animations, coding and designs. Just reflecting on how the whole game evolved over ten short years with the talent and dedication of women and men ZT2 fans, I believe nothing is out of reach for our community. Great work! Would I buy a ZT3 game available for PC? Probably. But I am convinced I would prefer ZT2 and gives it more of my "computer time" in a day. ~ Uolym 2) What are your phobias? I hate leeches. Deeply. Not too fond of bees or wasps either. And I have two irrational phobias : (1) I like to look at the moon at night, but when the moon is somehow hidden and/or the stars shining brighter, I do not watch at the sky for too long because I feel like the gravity will reverse and I will fall into the sky ; (2) I am afraid that, when someone cracks his/her neck, I will turn and see that somehow he/she managed to break it and died. Like I said, irrational fears. ~ Uolym That's hard to say....Maybe fire? Like my house burning down?~ ZionEagle I hate spiders, but I am also afraid to see (evil) ghosts/spirits even though I don’t know if they actually exist.. ~ Rowannus 3) No one is flawless. Mention your greatest flaw. Not really a flaw, but I am pretty short. Just 1.60m, but I don’t care! ~ Rowannus I am an anxious person. I have learn to deal with it as I grew up, but meeting a new person, giving a work presentation or starting a new job make me so stressed out that I can easily become sick or have insomnia. However, over the years, I have learn to not let it take a total control over me. Visualization, relaxation knowing and respecting my limits, and surrounding myself with people I trust helped me a lot. So, for all the anxious in the community : it gets better! ~Uolym Umm...Selective hearing ~ ZionEagle Nature: 1) Which animal is the most abundant in your city? Eastern Grey Squirrel, and some are as big as cats (no kidding). People feed them way too much! ~ Uolym Well I live in the country, so probably rabbits or squirrels ~ ZionEagle If this is about pets; there are a lot of dogs in my city. Also there are many deer, geese/swans. ~ Rowannus 2) People in India handle cow-dung, flatten them, bake them in the sun and make roofs in the rural areas. They also make incense sticks from it? Gross or 'cow dung is pure'? Well as long as they have a good reason to use it, I say have at it. ~ ZionEagle I was aware of this practice, but I never thought of it as gross or pure. I always thought (and still think) Indian people thought of a great way to recycle cow dung and use it for great purposes. Very resourceful! ~ Uolym It sounds gross .. ~ Rowannus 3) Do you think mermaids, or closely resembling animals, maybe out there somewhere? No, I don’t think they are somewhere. ~ Rowannus It might be possible, but I'm pretty sure they're myths (Don't hate me people...) ~ ZionEagle Manatees and Dugong. But seriously, I believe some cryptid and legendary creatures do exist for real, since folklore was proved right a couple of times (Okapi, Coelacanth, Saola, Giant Squid, etc.). However, I do not think Ariel or any real mermaid are out there. ~ Uolym Community: 1) Name your two favorite design teams. Why are they your favorite? Aurora Designs. Duh, their work is absolutely amazing! Natural Designs do some amazing things too. ~ ZionEagle This is a tricky question... Since I never learn to design (I tried but eh! it is obviously not my cup of tea), I have a profound admiration for every one who design, reskin, code, mesh and do all the other things you must do when you design. I would not like to show favoritism over a team over an other because they all do an awesome job improving the community. Thanks to everyone of them! ~ Uolym Aurora Designs is my favorite one. Their projects are really amazing and so well made that they almost look like real animals. The second is DutchDesigns because they have really beautiful and needed downloads! ~ Rowannus 2) Which ZT2 based site is the best by far, including all attributes like downloads, cooperation, system, activity etc.? The Round Table, of course. ~ Rowannus TRT! TRT! Remind me why I'd say something else ~ ZionEagle I have been on a couple ZT2 websites over the years and seen many rised to fame and then fell into oblivion. I must say that, right now, The Round Table is my favorite. I always felt at home here and I am glad I can contribute to this forum as a staff member now. ~ Uolym 3) Who is your best friend over here at TRT? Why so? There are a lot of nice people out here, but I think Gabriel and Hudson are my best ones. ~ Rowannus This is also a tricky question. There are many members I would called my friends here, I think I would not be fair to choose one of them over the others. ~ Uolym It was a hard one, cause I can't say for sure I have a best friend here but here are people I've chatted with etc: Kaleb, Powerpoint stuff, Zebrasorus, c'mon everyone likes her, she was the first and only person to personally welcome me to the site. Caseyalex211, design team, and I did have lengthy conversations with Dinosaw222. ~ ZionEagle It was a pleasure to interview you three guys. You all are awesome! We are happy to know you more, and have fun at the TRT DinoFest. [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] [anchor]poll[/anchor] Poll by: fridooh Watch Star Wars or Star Trek? The game is incredibly beautiful with a magical hand drawn surrounding and stunning music that fits the theme perfectly. You get to play a young girl, whose name is Aurora. After she's fallen asleep one night - she wakes up in the land of Lemuria. Together with a small firefly, Igniculus, she starts a journey to save her father. This is a RPG platform game, and it's created in such a smart way. You learn how to fly quite early on, which creates endless possibilities to explore the world. You meet a lot of different characters on on your journey, and some of them will join your party. The combat is made in a very clever way and you need to think before you cast. There is a timeline at the bottom showing who gets to cast next, and you are able to interrupt their cast and slow their time. It's an excellent way to make the combats even more interesting and challenging. I thought the game was quite easy early on, but now that I've played the whole game - I take that back. The game becomes more challenging for each chapter, which is a good thing. This is such a beautiful, easy going game and it's hard to stop playing. The only negative thing I have to say about this game is that you can't see the enemies HP bar. It really bugs me. Very few people post fact sheets, maybe due to lack of time and ideas, So the newsletter team thought that it would be a good idea. This months community challenge is to to write as many fact sheets as you can. Do you like fish ? Reptiles ? Or something else ? Why not write about it to show how much you know about your favorite animal, and how much you like it ? Well, now for the community challenge you can do just that. Fact sheets are not only useful to comprehend animals which you don't know much about, but also a tool for zoo-builders who may want to grasp the knowledge on the diet of certain animals, their likes and dislikes, enrichment items they may want to provide to their animals and even their habitats. Designers will also use this for the same when making animals when they don't know much about an animals temperament, what it eats, or where it lives. Your fact sheet will be utilized by many people, for a variety of things; so go ahead and post your fact sheet! The more you post, and make topics, the more others can post and that will open more doors for you to post! 5. Be friendly. PM people, welcome people, and be patient with everyone, especially newer members. Remember, if you're kind to people, its very likely they'll be kind to you 6. Submit Downloads. We have a nice download center so we mine as well get as many downloads as we can in it. We also have good download managers, so we had mine as well keep them busy too 7. Offer your help in the Staff PM Box. Let us know if you are available and we may just have something for you that would take a lot of pressure off of us. [go2=top]Back To Top[/go2] |
