I checked at myself again, and all the fish are working correctly, I can put the fish in the water, both in the wild and in the aquarium.
It is possible that the problem is in animation, you have downloaded a package of -JimmyzHoopz- with his fish (American Adventures)? because cichlids use these animations ;)

I actually have the same problem, the fish cannot be placed in tanks or lakes, and their status bar is empty.
I do have American Adventures.

I had no issues with the pack before, other than the fish never satisfied their rest needs or breed, then again I don't know if they were supposed to breed or not.

The animation problem should be fixed if you have the Cyprinid minipack by Ulquiorra in your game:

The bug occurs because the cichlids need Cypriniformes.xml and Cypriniformes.xml to function, and those files come with the Cyprinid pack.

That'll explain why I've had no issues with the pack then xD

The fishes look great ;) But is it really necessary to create so many variants just by hue/saturation changes?

I think so, because there is no good textures for cichlids, as if they were then I would tried to do more different skins, and so it remains only "fun colors" at least in the game fish are different in nature, or even in aquariums ( me too in the aquarium :)) can see that, for example, males of the same species have different shades of blue or yellow (M. estherae) because I try to reflect, such as color balance in the game :)
And so in addition cool new species will show:
Scrapermouth mbuna (Labeotropheus trevawasae):
