The entire point of this site is equality between all members. Oddly, that is the exact opposite of what goes on here. Someone hit it on the nailhead in the other thread- if you're not a popular member who is friends with the staff or is on the staff, good luck voicing an opinion or concern. You could put them in the staff PM box, but then it's a you against the staff scenario, and of course you will know how that will turn out. As if that wasn't enough, then you are denied the chance to openly speak, and to see if other members agree. Star's goodbye thread is probably the first in years where someone has been allowed to cite their concerns without an aggressive defense from the staff, and even them it was bombarded with "Oh, put it in the Staff PM box" where it would be "handled." A pathetic abuse of power. This is an internet forum, and when you're in charge, only good morals will keep you from saying "Shut up and stop it" whenever someone brings up that, for once, you messed up. But you're in for a harsh reality when you enter the real world, because it's foolish. Maybe if we were allowed to civilly discuss problems, where all could see, we would solve these problems. But I doubt it. You poke a snake enough and it will bite you- and if one of the worshiped members of the community ends up looking bad, you will be ushered away, warned, and ordered to finish your complaints in the Staff area. Now, how do you think these complaints will turn out? They'll probably be dismissed, or you'll just get ganged up on, and in the comforts of their little hidey-hole, they'll be free to crumple up your grievance and toss it in the trash. I'm glad that at least some of you agree with this, and it's obvious that there is an overwhelming agreement with the members that this place should pull up it's pants and start obeying it's own rules. (Talking to you, staff.)
Really? Because I could argue that the exact opposite is going on here. If I had to pick just one thing to say, just one sentence, just one morsel of information for you to think about, it would certainly and without any doubt be; the Staff should not be immune to the rules, especially on a forum that boasts it's equality. Goodbye, I hope this place improves, and good luck to you all. I especially appreciate the friends I've made and the people I've met, and I won't soon forget. I'll be here for a few days still. I have things to finish up and am not about to leave a partner stranded. Otherwise, see ya, and I wish the best. ~The Admiral Edited by Admiral General Aladeen, Mar 10 2015, 01:48 PM.

And is leaving is supposed to fix everything? I really see no point in leaving. All it's doing is throwing negativity at the staff and creating drama. |

It's not throwing negativity at the people who are making this place unwelcoming for many- its throwing reality at them. I'm leaving because I'd rather not be around anymore. And seriously? Yesterday you were agreeing with those advocating for the people who didn't like it here to leave? |

Fare well admiral. *salutes* I have not been aware of the staff stuff going on. But if it is as corrupt as everyone says then I think replacements and re-ordering is needed. As a admin and founder of three sites and admin at a few others, I volunteer if needed. |

No, I wasn't talking about that. I didn't really see how that was sarcasm, it was just stupid and pointless to me. But this isn't the point of this topic, and I'm not going to argue with you about it because it's rather trivial and at this point why bother |

What is there to get over? I'm just saying good bye to a friend and then saying that if there is a problem then it should be fixed. I'm not bashing anyone or causing any kind of trouble. |

Well, good bye, Admiral. With all the concerns and such being brought up in the departing topics, I happen to find myself quite amused by the fact that "Welcome" forum has become "Goodbye" forum for the time of today at least. |

Well, it's sad you feel the need to leave, but hey, if you can't stand the heat, you get out of the kitchen (was that right ?). See ya, general, you know where to find me. |

Leaving won't solve anything Admiral. Many are supporting you - and seriously, you'll give up on a community for someone who quarreled with you? You two need strong hearts. Don't leave AGA, maybe you can stay back, and for the last time forget that unfair things happening to you. ~Flower Edited by Flower, Mar 10 2015, 02:03 PM.

I was encouraged (by a non-staff, non-involved-with-staff member) to post how I feel about the things said here and in the other topics. I was hesitant to do so, but perhaps some down-to-earth honesty will mend things, and it’s right here in the open; no Staff PM Box. A lot of pretty harsh ideas got thrown out; corrupt staff, a dictatorship, suppressing the members, and homophobia to name a few. Surprises were not appreciated, inside jokes not allowed, and festivals outright hated. Our way of doing the pointies zoo considered favoring ourselves, and underlying it all this idea that anyone who opposes staff will be warned. Yeah, I hear the complaints. I want to explain something, if I may. All of this is from my own point of view, and shouldn’t be taken as from the entire staff team; none of them were aware I was writing this. Two years ago I started this forum with my friends. I never expected success, but sure enough we soon had our own community. The forum wouldn’t be here without the hard work of those friends and myself, as well as the participation and support of our members. Over those two years I watched it grow and go through good and bad times. Changes were made, many for the better. We planned events, added themes, looked for ways to improve. It wasn’t always easy either. Sometimes I’d stay up all night just to finish something for the site. So how does this topic, and all the other ones, make me feel? Hurt. I take time out of my day every day (as does every other staff member). I put energy into finding new things to add to TRT. A dino-themed festival for our site’s many paleo-fans, for example. A new theme to brighten things up. Those were my ideas, things I worked hard to make a reality, and to hear all these people saying that they hated my ideas and my work… yes, it hurts, because we’re human too. None of the staff members have to be here. Not one of them is required to stay and be staff. Similarly, none of you are required to be members; you’re welcome to leave when you aren’t satisfied with the forum. The problem is, you don’t leave; you stay, but demand that staff change the forum, and nothing we try to brighten the mood is enough. I hate to say it this way, but for lack of better terms: TRT is not your right. TRT is something all of us worked hard on to present to you, and yes, we do value your opinion, but it is not something you deserve just for being here. That is not to say we don’t make mistakes; of course we do, but some of the concerns pointed out (like that staff chooses which silhouettes are used) make it sound like having a pointies zoo is your right. No, the pointies zoo was something we introduced to make things more fun; no forum previously had had that. The staff team is full of people I call my friends. We work well together, and we’re the most united we’ve been in a long time, I think. The forum (I thought) was also full of people I called my friends, but friends talk to friends when something is wrong. I miss my friends. Nobody ever PMed me saying corruption is an issue, nobody ever told me that favoritism is a problem. And despite this the staff has already started taking measures to fix some of what’s wrong. (And no, it’s not warning people.) To put your complaints in perspective, the staff was working on: - an apology for any rules broken during the DinoDating prank (from Danny) - a rules/consequence rewrite to ensure fairness in punishment - a public staff area to give suggestions and communicate with each other I will not claim that the staff is perfect, or that things can’t be fixed, but I don’t think it’s right for you to tell me that my ideas were awful, or that I’m corrupt, or that I don’t listen to members, especially if nobody told me beforehand. We’re people too; people that have worked hard to make TRT possible. A little respect, at least for the effort, and for the fact that we have feelings too, would be great. Yelling at staff won’t fix this, and yelling at members won’t fix this. We have to work together, but that can only happen if both sides are willing to, and I’m not very optimistic right now. |

TBH - I pretty much agree with Everything Zeebs said. I am awfully sorry to every staff member - and I would like to acknowledge the efforts they make - even though they are not duty-bound or being paid for them. They make us happy - but can make small faults, because they're still human. I will never again hurl insults against you all and try to see it from the perspective of great inspiration, effort and faith of the hardworking staff. Sorry again. ~Flower |
