Hybrid pheasants are usually sterile (female sterility). |

What about the males? I've read on one of the topics at backyardchickens.com that Reeves x common pheasant hybrids are completely sterile, but I've also read on wikipedia that bird hybrids (including pheasants) in general are male fertile and female sterile, the opposite to mammalian hybrids. |

Thanks again, really loving the new sand lizard! European reptiles are something we're lacking. |

Yes, it's coded so that the hybrid can only be obtain through cross breeding those two species (which is also why the hybrid itself isn't shown in that image) After doing some more research, male hybrid reeves x common pheasants are fertile and when back-cross to females of either parent species, the second generation, back-crossed hybrids, look more like their maternal parent. So the male hybrid can interbreed with either common or reeves using the standard interbreed coding, therefore producing either common or reeves offspring depending on what it bred with. The female hybrids however are sterile and when they breed, they will lay infertile eggs, which is why you need my goose pack for this pack to work fully, the goose pack contains the infertile egg. I've also coded the common and green pheasants to interbreed, but they don't produce hybrids, just normal common pheasants, as I've read somewhere that the common/ring-necked pheasants that are bred for sport and game shoots are all cross breeds of numerous common pheasant sub-species, as well as some carrying green pheasant DNA.
