In Zoos Type of Exhibit: Cockatiels are social birds. A couple of them can be kept on a medium bird cage. They have no problem living in large aviaries, in fact they love it. They need perches, branches to climb, and a shaded area. They also like rattles to play and strings and wooden sticks to chew. Temperament: Cockatiels are docile birds who like interaction with humans. They might be shy when first introduced to their new habitat, but they are usually friendly birds. They also like fruits and vegetables, and it is highly recommended to give it to them as it provides nutrients these parrots need. Whater should be avaiable 24/7. They like sunflower seeds, corn, peanuts (unsalted) and raw noodles as treats. Other foods they can it on smaller quantities are hard boiled eggs and boiled chicken for protein. As with every other parrot, you should never give them chocolate, avocado or alcocholic drinks. Social Needs: Cockatiels should never be housed alone, unless it is for short periods of time like for quarantine. If you can't find or afford another cockatiel, you can buy a budgie, they are often kept together and problems never happen. They have also been kept with zebra finches, but in this case, the finches should have a shelter to hide. Reproduction: These birds are relatively easy to breed, needing a medium nesting house. The female lays 3-10 eggs, but does won't start incubating until she has laid the third one. Cockatiels younger than 18 months old should not be bred, as the chicks might have genetic problems or the parents may abandon them. Extra Information:
