I've transported the model and created the rig from scratch instead of editing the BF tyrannosaurus rig. Luckily I didn't lose much work though there are 142 animations I'll have to make.

I think it looks really nice! Usually my artsy-fartsy rendition of feathered dinosaurs have feathers that go all the way up their arms, with quill feathers oriented towards the hands, and a few small contour and pin feathers on the elbows and scapula. But it's always refreshing and inspiring to see how other people design their models.

Hi DRC ;)
I looked through your topic, and what you're doing looks kinda promising :) Teh models are looking great, and I love that you're experimenting with sculpting, a tool that was improved a lot in the last blender updates! I know, that you said, that you don't want any help, but I'm sure you could improve your texturing a lot, so I might help you there. As you said, in the community there are many tutorials about skinning with 2D software, but there are some tricks, if you want to skin with blender! You can actually warp all your images in blender, so your image quality won't be lost! You said, you're experienced with blender, so I'll do this short!

You can duplicate your model, open the texture, and project your uv map on the image, so it fits with th part you want to have. Then you can bake it to your original model with your real uv map and after continuing this technique a few times, you can combine them in
GIMP or Ps or whatever, adjust the lightning and oveay a texture to it!

I know this isn't exactly what you wanted, but I'm sure it's worth a try, because too much fine deta won't be visible ingame either, so just give it a try ;)
If you have any questions, shoot me a pm, it's not a shame to ask for help :D
