Hey guys,
I trashed my original topic (again xD ) in which I presented exhibits of different zoos I visited. I noticed that amost no one ever commented there, so that's why I now open a new topic.
This time there won't be that much text and not only enclosures but also pictures of animals being rare in European or German zoos.

Today I will start with Kiwara Kopje, the brand new enclosures for Eastern black rhinos, Southern cheetahs and patas monkeys in Leipzig Zoo. On one of the three visible exhibits rhinos, cheetahs and the monkeys will live together.
I'm a big fan of this exhibit since it is the best rhino enclosure I've seen so far. So, I was happy to see it in real on Tuesday :)

Today's update: a few rarities in Berlin Tierpark.

Southern Gerenuk (Litocranius walleri walleri): In Berlin (Zoo and Tierpark) are the only two current holdings of gerenuks in Europe. 2013 the Tierpark received two pairs from American zoos, after decades without any holding in Europe. While one of the females died pregnant, the other gave birth to a male - which was named "Tayo" - on 27 February 2015. While in former decades the Northern Gerenuk was hold and breed in Europe, this breeding success was the first one of the Southern subspecies ever in a European zoo.
In 2015 a group of 1.3 Southern gerenuks were imported from America agian by Berlin Zoo. Now there is living a breeding group of 1.4 specimen (plus Tayo) in the Tierpark and two males in the Zoo.

East African Aardwolf (Proteles cristata septentrionalis): Only German holding in Berlin Tierpark. Three more zoos in Great Britain and Ireland are hoilding this species. Sadyl there wasn't any breeding success so far.

Chaco Peccary (Catagonus wagneri): In 2012 two pairs of this peccary species were imported from Los Angeles and San Diego by Berlin Tierpark. While it isn't the first holding of this species in Europe (in the 1970s there lived specimen in Berlin Zoo), it was the first holding after more than 30 years. In 2013 the European's first breeding success became reality in Berlin, since 2013 they are breeding regulary. Offsprings of Berlin's Chaco peccaries are already living in Wroclaw (Poland) and Jilhava (Czech Republic).

Golden Takin (Budorcas taxicolor bedfordi): In 2010 the Tierpark received golden takins for the first time from the Czech zoo Liberec which holds and breeds this species since 2002. The first German breeding success became reality in Berlin in 2011. Meanwhile also Dresden shows this takin subspecies.

I hope you enjoyed this update! It was only a small peek into the great animal population of Berlin Tierpark which holds even more rarities :)

That rhino exhibit is awesome! How many rhinos live in there?
Apparently I visited Berlin Tierpark once, but that's almost 15 years ago so sadly, I don't remember anything D: I need to go back there some time.

Thanks guys ;)

@Stephen:
In the rhino enclosure are living three rhinos: the male "N'Dugu" and the females "Sarafine" and "Nandi" plus the two cheetah females "Nandi" (yes, two Nandis :D ) and "Tariro" and three male patas monkeys ;)
Btw, rhinos/cheetahs and rhinos/patas monkeys is already working well but cheetah/monkey is not that successful so far. But they tried it only once so far, so I'm optimistic :)

Yes, Tierpark Berlin is a must-visit for all "zoo freaks" due to its great amount of species, teh same for BErlin Zoo :D
But nevertheless they are in financial problems and altough they have very good future plans (including far better conditions for the bears, cats and elephants) the city of Berlin don't really want to pay for it...
Anyway, this zoo is alyways very nice to visit :D

*blows dust of topic*
Uolym has encouraged me to update here again with his NY zoo topic :P

I got a new, much better camera on my birthday in February. I wanted it for my trip to South Africa and now I'm practicing with it. In the last months I have visited my two local zoos, the Zoo Berlin and Tierpark Berlin, a lot and have taken hundreds of animals pictures XD
I would like to show you some and hope you enjoy the pictures.

Let's start with some birds today. Both zoos have a lot of bird species with many rarities.
The following pictures were all taken in the Zoo. (EDIT: Zoo=Zoologischer Garten, @Stephen ;) )

(Galah cockatoo)

(Inca tern)

(A very well-known bird: the budgerigar)

Posted Image
(Black-throated finch, just eleven current holdings in Europe.)

Posted Image
(Java sparrow)

Posted Image
(Palm cockatoo)

Posted Image
(Silvery-cheeked hornbill)

Posted Image
(The head of a white-headed vulture.)

Posted Image
(A purple-throated fruitcrow. There are just three current holdings in Europe!)

Awesome pics! Could you perhaps show some of the Zoologischer Garten next time? I'm going there in July and definitely want to see some more of it before going :)

Thanks :)
Those pics are from the Zoo ;) But I can show some more of course. Any whishes? I could show more animals or exhibits and buildings if you want.

Btw, in July you could be lucky that the Bird House reopens after nine months of renovations (they were necessary because there were problems with the air-conditions in the summer, so some birds nearly died of a heat shock :/ ) and some other construction sites will be finished then (e.g. enlarged main entrance and renovated petting zoo :P ).

Looking really cool, Jony! I'm so jealous of the fact that you live close to both zoos in Berlin, haha. Antwerp is wonderful, but it really can't be compared.

Anyways, I've been to the Zoo, but never to Tierpark. Do you have any pictures of the reptile house (both inhabitants and the building itself) in the Tierpark?

Thanks both of you, guys :) "Close" is relative, I need one hour to the Tierpark, so the Zoo is a bit closer to my home :P

@Anton: I do have some pictures of the reptile houses (there are two to be precised, I'm guessing you mean the "Schlangenfarm" though). Although none from the outside view, but from indoors ;)

I can upload those pictures later ;)

I assume Zoo Berlin has some walkthrough aviaries, those are usually among my favourite exhibits in a zoo. Do you have any pics of those? And of course, cool combination exhibits!
