I'm not really bothered by stereotypes, used to be when younger tough really not anymore, and i end up finding them more hilariously wrong than anything else. As for ludicrously absurd stereotypes of Brazil specifically, theres some fairly hilarious ones: I believe they are all listed here http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheCapitalOfBrazilIsBuenosAires tough i end up finding them funny rather than insulting, like, do they really believe in this shite? LOL! However, one stereotype i don't like has nothing to do with national stereotypes is the one that assumes that every jewish person must like Israel and agree with whatever shit they do, and as a jewish person (not religiously mind you, i'm an atheist but i do come from a jewish family, so i'm technically seen as "a jew") its rather annoying to get shit for what some assholes in the middle east are doing as if you were responsible for that just on the basis of being jewish. other and that i too find most of the jewish stereotypes fun to laugh at, and will most likely be the first to crack a holocaust joke. When I was designing characters for my webcomic, I ended up designing a Russian with a rather tragic backstory, but at the same time, he manages to get over it and develop into a better character as the series progresses. What I did not know at the time, however, was that there is apparently a stereotype for Russians to suffer the most out of the cast... although thankfully, out of the entire cast, he ironically suffers the least. |

While I mainly agree with you the way you react to this statement implies that you believe priests are perfect. Actually some Catholic Priests have molested Alter Boys but of course many priests don't and wouldn't do that. |

What makes eating a turtle or lizard different from eating a dog or cat or pig or chicken? I mean I don't approve of the conditions many dogs bred for consumption (nor do I approve of the atrocious conditions in many factory farms), but it doesn't make much difference. Yulin was bad enough because COMPANION dogs and cats were mostly stolen from families. However, one must not forget about our own factory farms. I'm aware not all farms are bad, but there's quite a bit that are yet it seems as if the government isn't doing much to change it. Edited by Fluffs, Aug 12 2015, 11:18 PM.

Well, I was homeschooled for most of my life and have heard a lot of stereotypes about homeschooled kids: 1) we're nerdy 2) we're socially awkward 3) we're highly religious 4) we're weird 5) we're obsessed with schoolwork 6) we're uptight My family is secular; otherwise, I'll admit that I embody most of these stereotypes lol. brb pretending you're familiar with pop culture references brb never being up to date on slang brb people asking you to do math problems brb people either assumed you were a devout christian or the next einstein brb cringing every time someone asked "what school do you go to?" I know a homeschooled kid who is every one of these.
Nothing against all homeschooled kids but it's just funny how you described him exactly. |

I think that stereotype really only ever plays true with exchange students. And its not about intelligence but about how schools are taught in different regions, not to mention that exchange or recently immigrated students usually are dropped back a grade to ease the pressure on them. In many Asian countries students in grade x have typically learned considerably more through their schooling than North American students in grade x, but its all about the education system. |

That is the truth of that sterotype. It doesn't even apply to us, yet the jokesters of the class nevertheless use it on us once in a while. EDIT: I found something really interesting on the Science Channel that could explains some things. Through the Wormhole: Are we all Bigots? Edited by Spinosail, Aug 14 2015, 12:40 PM.
