For thousands of years I lay dormant! Who has disturbed my slumb-- Oh, it's just you guys. Anyway, since most of you are relatively new, I've got a bit of a story for yas. For the newbies around here, I might not be of much significance to you (unless of course you frequent the paleontological section here). But for some of the more long term residents here, most of you will recognise me as a reasonably big-name skinner for various things, most notably Cretaceous Calamity. What most of you might not have realised was that in my time as a ZT designer, I have had rare moments where I've been able to use 3DS Max trial versions to dabble in the realms of meshing. Mostly (pretty crap) trees, and a now outdated Allosaurus for Jurassic Excursions. But there was a project I wanted to take on solo. It started off basically like Allosaurus, but then its classification got completely borked and I had to switch it up to something like a Dilophosaurus. When I finally got that working, it was reclassified AGAIN. With all my 3DS Max trials bled dry, and no keygen to seal the deal for even one of their versions (and obviously no money to BUY the overpriced load of laggy crap), I was stuck. Stuck for a long time. Then an old friend of mine offered to at least fix it up in Zbrush/Sculptris and bring it to the new world. And it looked amazing. But it was too HD to get ingame, and no one was available to rig something that complex. And so, over the millennia, it sorta faded into obscurity. Buried by the sands of time (much like the dinosaurs themselves, go figure). Until a few days ago, where Mr. Sam, while tidying up some of his own projects (which I urge you to check out here if you haven't), offered to start retopo-ing it into something more workable. I was delighted and he got started on it. But it was taking up a lot of time, there was other things we could both have been doing. So for the first time, I actually managed to understand things in this ancient and alien technology some of you locals use. What's it called? Blehnn D'rr? Blandor? I dunno. It's foreign. It must be how Donald Trump feels when reading Mexican tweets on the interweb. Anyway, I took over the job from Sam and I am so very VERY happy to say that my oldest and greatest solo project is back in full swing and is already fully meshed, retopo'd, ready for a rig (which is already being attended to), and just needs a skin, by me. And coding. By me. Oh yes. My oldest friend and ZTV comrade, Zooa, has taught me The Ways of Coding as well. So without further ado... BEHOLD! MY CRYOLOPHOSAURUS IS BACK! ![]() Special thanks to the following people for the help with this mesh:
What's important here is that I actually learned how to do things in Blender. I am no longer tied down by the constraints of 3DS Max trial versions and broken keygens. I AM FREE! I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE! AND I BRING YOU FIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRE! |

Ah, yes, I remember those days... The newbies at ZTV practically worshipped you. Great job on the Cryo- that crest looks particularly cool-looking. |

Deep within the bowels of TRT's lost and forgotten projects, a single topic stirrs... So I finally made my first of maybe three/four plants. Dicroidium feistmantelli ![]() This kinda leaves me a bit stuck, since I've realised I'm not entirely sure where to go from here. First thing I'd like to figure out is how to get a better render of it. For some reason, only the bark texture gets treated as a material rather than a simple texture, so it's the only texture that gets rendered. How do I turn an imported UV texture into a material that can be rendered? Though, more importantly, is any of that going to matter in the inevitable point where I need to convert this from a blender file to a Nif/BFB? |

Nice looking tree you got there Incinerox. Hopefully you'll find out how to solve all that material and texture stuff.

Usually, when working with blenders internal render engine, you would click on the mesh you want to apply a material to, go to the materials tab and click on add new material. Then go to the textures an and add the texture you want. If your model is uv unwrapped, this won't cause any problems. To export just a tree, just select the tree with already correct named material and texture and just export it as bfb, the scripts will add everything you need. For the wind effect, the new scripts do that automatically, there's a button for this, but because I didnt use it yet, you might want to ask DM to get a better explanation

Wow! Really liking the trees! More extinct foliage is always nice as it spices up exhibits for both dinosaurs and modern animals! |

Well, the good news is that I've got it as far as ingame! WHICH IS A FIRST FOR ME! Bad news is that the tree is probably a bit large (he said sarcastically). It's also fluorescent pink, with yellow and light blue bits. It lacks an obvious name, or an updated icon (it's currently coded from the Maple via APE2). It's actually hilarious to behold. I'll probably have it sorted out tomorrow. Here it is for anyone interested:
