Oh, look who their expert is? Hwang Woo-suk...
He's the one I referred here as an example of how trustworthy Korean scientists can be.

He claimed to have cloned humans but really just fertilized eggs in vitro.
Wiki

On May 12, 2006, Hwang was charged with embezzlement and bioethics law violations after it emerged much of his stem cell research had been faked.

And hello, how the heck are they taking those samples?! Are they completely insane? I'd do that with a tiny little drill rather than a chisel...

Agreed, Hwang Woo-suk is a complete fraud. I don't see why he's taken seriously by anyone at this point.

And I agree with Hendrix, chiseling the specimen to collect samples is really stupid, they're just risking damaging the specimen plus they can't actually think that they'll get good samples by doing this, can they?

I mean no offense to those who live in Korea but you're scientists and leaders are nuts.

Agreed, but ever heard of North Korea?

That aside, I do not expect anything to come out of it, given that we haven't progressed on this topic as much before. It'd be a surprising miracle if it happens though.

Anyway, why did they have to use chisel to poke into the mummy like that? Wouldn't just a little scratch on the skin enough?

I'm not slow! That's just my moe!

It could be they were still removing sediment and the article implies otherwise because they didn't have any other pictures.
