Also presumed to most likely be invalid according to studies from the 90s, but don't take my word for it

An extinction from this year: Partula faba, a type of air-breathing tree snail native to French Polynesia. The last individual died at the Bristol Zoo on February 21st, 2016 according to Wikipedia.

Sad to think about what other species might become extinct this year.

...

I'm disappointed we can't hover over the "like" button and select a sad face like you can on Facebook. That snail has me interested.

Another 2016 extinction: the Rabbs' fringe-limbed tree frog (Ecnomiohyla rabborum) became extinct on September 28th with the death of Toughie, the last known individual.

It's really sad seeing how many rhinoceros subspecies have gone extinct in the last century. There are the four extinct ones mentioned here, a few more that haven't been posted, and two more that are functionally extinct.
(because you bumped the topic I will quote this very old post)

Besides the Northern White Rhinoceros, which other subspecies did you mean with "functionally extinct"?

Javan rhinoceros, I'd think.

These are debated as to whether they are a species or net, but recent studies show they are at least functionally extinct
