Well to me it actually looks much more normal now; the old reconstruction was really strange but now it clearly shows a cool adaptation for browsing algae and stuff. |

I was skeptical of the "zipper-mouthed" interpretation from the beginning TBH. Anyway, always nice to see our (still infinitely small) understanding of the distant past steadily improving. |

I hope somebody makes an animation that shows Atopodentatus changing from it's former zipper jaws self to a hammerhead like shape, it could really use if it had the same sound effect as the Nope.avi video. |

So we can add it to the list of herbivorous Mesozoic marine reptiles Ankylosphenodon is the only other member... |

I have to say the medially-pointing teeth it used to have was a little harder to wrap my head around and thus a little weirder. But Underwater Nigersaurus is awesome, too. It's always nice to have new information about an animal. |

So it was like a prehistoric analogue to manatees and dugongs ? Nice. |

Now the REAL question here is, did it stare into one's soul like Nigersaurus once did? |

Two such things, actually. Ankylosphenodon was also an aquatic herbivore from the Mesozoic, albeit much later. |

The paper implies Henodus was also living a similar lifestyle., which would bring us up to three. |
