New Zoo Game

It's been 13 years and yet this community (what's left of it) still has nothing to replace ZT.

The Xbone ZT was shallow and half baked.

I fear those of us who still love this game will slowly die out and there will be nothing to fill the void.

I'm not slow! That's just my moe!

Prehistoric Kingdom is always an option for at least part of this community. Just saying.

There was a discussion that Microsoft was thinking about a new PC version. I can not remember the link to (not this site) where this discussion was happening.

I located it: https://www.facebook.com/ZooTycoonGame They are seeing if there is any interest in a new PC version.

I doubt microsoft would take a risk like that.

Mainstream publishers have become far too greedy to risk anything that isn't guaranteed to make them money.

That's why we just don't see games like ZT anymore.

It's sad, really.

I think its time for the fans to start taking action and make a brand new zoo game that zoo tycoon fans can really enjoy kinda like what they did for roller coaster tycoon by making planet coaster i dont know what you'd call the new game but ya

Frontier, the creators of Planet Coaster, have trademarked another title, Planet Safari. I read it up on a couple of sites, here's one link: https://forums.planetcoaster.com/showthread.php/3647-Planet-Safari-next-up

So, they might make an expansion for PC that's animal oriented. I wouldn't run it past them, they did make an animal expansion for RCT3.

I'm perfectly happy with ZT2 and what the modding community have contributed to the game. The big difference you have between a humble modding community and a company like Microsoft is time. When you don't have a budget or time constraints, creations can turn out beautiful and accurate. If it's someone like Microsoft, they don't have the time for research or accuracy. I've never found a zoo tycooning game that had the amount of devotion that we have for ZT2 (although in rare cases you get indie ames like Saurian, though it's not a tycoon game).

Just my two cents. Microsoft's big-budget(?) ZT"3" was for the latest consoles, and besides the over-all polished look of it all, I still think our ZT2 is heaps better.

I'd suggest Kickstarter but with Mighty #2, that may turn some people off. I find it weird that with JPOG, you have so many projects clamoring for the throne like Mesozoica, PK, Archotek, etc but no one has even suggested to make a new zoo game. By the projects I mentioned, there is clearly an incentive. I think the first crucial step is to make a game plan and go from there with gusto.

Forgive my ignorance, but I fail to see why we need a new zoo game as long as the one we have works on the modern computers?

Like a lot of others said I don't really see a huge need for a new zoo simulation game, ZT2 still runs well on most modern computers and modders have extended the life of the game a lot more than I would have expected knowing how old it is. Do I want a new zoo simulation game? I wouldn't be opposed to it, I'm planning on getting PK when it releases, but I don't see it as a necessity.

As for planning a Kickstarter or something it won't work, you'd need a solid designing team with an actual plan for developing the game rather than just hoping blindly that some fans of the old zoo simulation games would have the skills and time to put into developing a new game.

Well even if ZT2 works fine, the performance could be improved a lot with up to date graphic motors. The outdated one the game is using is the reason we have to make all models prety low-poly (and imported models are prone to crash the game) we can't have things such as fur channels to make fluffy animals.

Most importantly, we can barely make a complete zoo as we please, because the building style we have adopted requires placing lots and lots of foliage, rocks etc everywhere, something that the game can't handle since it wasn't made for that.
Maps are so small, for a decent-sized zoo you need to use multiple ingame maps. There is the XL map, but you can't actually fill it with a realistic amount of foliage or it startsl lagging as crazy.

Just saying that there are indeed reasons to consider a new game (or heavy improvements to the existing one, if possible). I'm nowhere near an expert in the subject.

A new zoo game would be amazing. Though I'm affright it would be more a child friendly game like the new ZT for the consoles. But a more realistic zoo game with a beter graphic engine (like lgcmf says) would be very nice.

Also I would prefer options like "real time" where it takes an elephant for example around two years to give birth but it also take them 15 years (?) to get grown ups, but a female can have more calves at the same time to make it more realistic. But of course they can also reach the age they reach in real life and they can't breed after a certain year, which makes that you have animals in your zoo which can't breed anymore. Right now the game is sometimes too fast. When I'm building a map and I have a few animals on them, when I'm finished I can have around twenty Pygmy Hippos, while I started with five (three females). Of course there should be an option to speed time, so you don't always have to wait long. This would also make it easier to play a cash limited game in stead of the unlimited cash game.

And some easy ingame editabale things would be cool. Now we have to depend on designers but it would be cool if you have a black fence, but you can make it also brown or white for example (like possible in The Sims). Or signs where you can upload a random picture from your computer. And then type your own text to make it possible to create signs for every animal in your zoo, without you needing to be an expert in designing.

And an ingame zoo trading market would be nice as well. A bit like Sim City. You start your own zoo and because you are new, a zoo in the neighbourhood offers you a few animals (for example three zebras). With trading though the other company can set demands (for example the exhibits needs to be 600 square meters, at least three trees for shade and a small lake). When you accept their offer you can set a date when they will arrive and before their arrival, you need to finish an exhibit for the animals which are coming. After a while you can also do more and more trading yourself and you can get partnerships with other zoos. This makes it easier to get rare animals, which can't be bought.

EDIT:

And with choosing the location of your zoo, it is also making it easier to get animals from that area, because other zoos are more likely to have animals from Asia when they are in Asia in stead of an American zoo. But this makes it also harder to get animals from for example Africa. With the trading option it is also possible to keep just a pair of one species, but you never have to be afraid that eventually all the animals die, because they can't breed.
