Well I don't come here often anymore and this is quite a ramble but I got thinking todayswhen I went and saw what mods the commnuity has been making since my leaving in 2014, and using the number of pages on the wiki, I calculated that there are about 4200-4400 mods on the wiki. That's very impressive but it got me thinking. we have come along way as a community. starting twelve years ago, on a childrens game on a nowadays hilariously outdated engine we have put more work into the game than the developers, whom have all forsaken this game, did several times over. We have created essentially a moving, noise making sort of realistic high definition 3d catalouge of the vertebrate life on earth through thousands of hours of hard work by dozens of talented people and built a community together that has withstood the destruction of so many websites (I do believe zoo tek pheonix still exists! which was around even since the first zt game came out). Point being it's amazing that this community still exists after so long and continues to exist. I had to leave the community for uni commitments, though I am planning on doing some non video show and tells and RZTIS over this years Christmas break, I am generally staying out until 2018 when I want to get back into the video making businesses. I am already trying to get my most original idea, martian biosphere into a book (I am at the spell checking and plot hole filling phase at the moment. however here is my point. will the community still be here by 2018, 2020, perhaps even 2024, making the game a whole two decades old! I do. I have noticed a disturbing trend though, the number of mods we are making is decreasing. from a record high of 800 ish mods in 2013, when the community may have been at it's highest, down to a more modest 500ish this year. still an impressive number but it must be said, we may be inevatbly declining. the cd copies have stopped being made, the only way to get new copies is to pirate them, and the engine is no longer capable of running many of our mods effectively. attempts to get new games started have also come up deadi n the water due to us not having the right people for the job, so many wanting to help but not enough with the skills needed. Point being, sorry for the rambling nature of this, just off the top of my head, is. Thank you ZT2 community, we are an amazing community of gamers, its a real shame there aren't more of us. |

Well concerning the last paragraph , the zt2 download library doesn't list every single download that was made (even tho 500 seems like a right overall number) . However I do agree that activity seems to be declining , people simply don't have time or interest to play anymore .

I think a part of it is that designers and consumers are demanding a higher quality of work from their animals, and as such it's taking longer to make them. Whereas once a designer could make an animal in a matter of days, even hours, it now takes weeks to photosource the skin, do all the modelling, UV wrapping and bone reconstruction, and all the intricate bits of code. |

^, I remember back in 08 there were absolute hordes of downloads that by todays standards would probably be considered atrocious, but at the time were considered top-notch. It's not so much that people aren't making downloads, they just want higher quality ones, unfortunately. Honestly, even the amount of designers hasn't really changed. Some have gone, but new ones sprout up every so often, too. |

There's actually a lot of 2016 downloads that are not listed at the wiki because since June I started focusing on other stuff and not a lot of people are adding new pages, so just so you know it's not a good source for a comparison of 2015 vs 2016, if 2015 has more downloads it's probably because more people were helping at the library compared to 2016. |
