I just don't see it happening like that. This is like when people back in the old days would say: "I'm founding a designing team. I'm the leader, researcher, tester and map maker. I need coders, skinners and meshers. Apply now!!!"

This is not how things work.

SO what would be a good way to find new recruits?

Be experts yourself before you start looking for help and don't proclaim yourselves as leaders.

So what you're saying is build up out infrastructure more from the inside before we go hunting fpor new recruits?

I think what Hendrix is getting at is that in order to develop a new game you need people who have a lot of experience or prior knowledge with programming, and that you yourselves need to become better at it before looking at recruiting other members. Programmers and animators from outside the community probably won't take you as seriously if you don't have a solid plan and specific skills you're looking for. Try learning Unity, there are plenty of tutorials available online.

Are we just too eager you think? I really don't want to give up on this idea but I want it to be done right.

No, you're not eager enough. If you were really that eager you would already have produced a rough prototype on your own by now. Where is it? What do you have to show? A proof-of-concept terraforming demo? Flowing water? No? See.

Good point. I tend to lack the hunger I need to actually start a project. I'm just talking the talk and not doing the do.

I'm not slow! That's just my moe!

Even if you had some expansive concept art by this point it would be a great help to you. You need to stop thinking of this as a Zoo Tycoon project, that way of team creation and management just won't work for an undertaking like this.

But your main problem is that your team leaders/directors aren't doing any of the heavy work. If you're going to ask other people to join and do all of the heavy lifting you need to be ready to relinquish a lot of control to them, especially in a game like this which has comparatively minimal creative aspects (versus if you were writing a story based game it would not be unreasonable for the writer(s)/director(s) to be in charge).

Yeah I admit we haven't been pulling out weight as a team. Hopefully once LC gets his laptop back from the shop, we can hop to it.

You just want a new zoo game really really really bad. And you want it as soon as possible. Really, your posts on the matter in each topic dealing on a potential new zoo game, say more than enough. There's nothing wrong with wanting it, but you're slowly reaching a level that it's becoming annoying. It's partly why you're always urging everyone to work together and you wanting to "keep the project safe" ( while there isn't even a project yet ). I'm not saying you've got no good intentions here, but they are getting a bit selfish.

This is the stereotypical case of a group of people who want to take on a big project because they want the project to be made; not because they're able to. You didn't create a group because you're combining your potential resources; you're creating one to make a game for you, the way you want it. And that is something that hasn't worked, won't work now, and will never work. The fact that you have a "leader" in a group that has no knowledge of how to develop a game, makes it a non-functioning team to begin with.

I know that I might be considered a bit rude here, but it was time someone broke it down to you. You're way too eager to get a game; and you're not eager enough to actually do something.

Want my advice ? Start CODING. Learn. Practice. Come up with a decent proof of concept ( not art, not plans, not that, but a functional demo of code you made). And then you can start dreaming of making your own game. Only then.

I'm pretty sure LC is a programmer/coder though?

-shrug.-

And I mean, there's more than just a programmer to a game team- without environment artists, texture artists, concept art, 3d modeling, and all of the other aspects, all programming can produce is a blank screen with maybe some words.

Quite sure LC is trying to recruit those other aspects of design to the team, as they are needed- they are just as important as the programming itself.
