Real Business; Rebalancing and Re-pricing ZT2

Firstly, this probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but i thought i would share this in case there are others who’d like realistic gameplay to go with the graphical realism of RR and other designers.
Secondly, this mod is in beta, the core works but i’m certain there are bugs I've missed and some features are still in the works.

The original Zoo tycoon is not only the first game i ever played as a kid, but also one of the few that still challenges and interests me to this day. Running a zoo is difficult and rewarding, and has lots of replayability.
What I loved most was not just adopting and caring for animals and building cool zoos, but the challenge of running a business.
Of course, there were many limitations, mostly graphical. But eventually ZT2 was released and now 10+ years later much of the game has been completely remade and the standard of quality edges on photo real thanks to the incredible work of countless designers.

So, that gave me the idea to not just re-balance the game, but to bring the current standard of realism in graphics to gameplay, to make ZT2 not only look real, but feel and handle like a real business simulator. Hence the name, Real Business.
In summation, the goal of this mod is to re-price everything to be the same cost as in real life and maintain a more challenging gameplay balance.

Collaborators are welcome and wanted. All my work is Public domain, you are free to edit and redistribute whatever you like.

Current Changes include:
- Re-pricing all remade animals to be their real-life costs
- Adding monthly upkeep costs to animals per-species
- Repricing staff salaries and building prices and upkeeps
- Changing the economy so that each guest represents 1000
- Making demolishing buildings and trees cost money instead of give money
- Putting animals up for adoption yields money

Planned Changes include:
- Re-pricing more scenery (Partially done)
- Re-pricing plants
- Re-pricing paths (Partially done)
- Changing animal lifespans, gestation periods, reproduction chance, and # of young (Partially done)
- Re-balancing animal popularity (Partially done)
- Changing animal's space requirements to be more realistic (Partially done)
- More configs for popular packs etc


Real Business REQUIRES all of Aurora Designs groundbreaking Radical Remake packs, which can be found on their website.

This mod also redistributes parts of Collar's Guest Hack, which makes guest behavior a bit more realistic, and Collar’s placement hack.
To avoid confusion about how and why this mod does some things it does, I recommend reading this paragraph on theory:

TL;DR: Each guest now represents 1000, but most of the admission cost is subtracted to account for costs we can’t simulate like permits, office and legal staff, PR etc.

FAQ:

Q: Why doesn’t X animal have the correct price and upkeep??? It’s part of the original game!
A: Real Business only supports animals that have been remade either by Aurora designs or some other designer or team in the public domain (Through a separate config file). This means many stock animals do not have configs.

Q: Why don’t dinosaurs have correct prices and upkeeps???
A: Real Business does not support Extinct Animals on it’s own, an additional config pack is currently in the works.

Q: Help! Something broke/your mod doesn’t work!
A: Make sure you have RR installed correctly and ALL the animals/parts of any additional configs you use, and you have the latest version of Real Business. If and when you find a bug, please fill out this bug form and PM it to me:

Q: Does Real Business support user-made animals and packs like WNW, Reptilia, etc?
A: Some are supported by myself, they require a separate Z2F file. These can be found in the Real Business Google drive below. If there's a pack or animal you want supported, you can ask politely and I may get around to it, or you can config it yourself, which is easy (I'll post a tutorial eventually).
If you don't have all of the animals or objects in a config they will appear as white boxes and probably crash the game when clicked, so make sure you have everything! The content of the configs is listed in a readme inside their Z2F. If you can't find the content listed, check the ZT2 Download library or PM me if necessary.
Feel free to post any configs you make in this thread or PM me and i'll add it to the Drive.

Feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Known Bugs:
- Some objects are still grid-conforming
- Some economy issues where demolishing things cost way more than they should
- The zoo fame stars may be displaced (Not sure why)
- Animal upkeep costs partly cover the zookeeper recommendations button (Not sure how to fix)

Real Business is not compatible with the following mods:
- OS's Conservation System (Compatibility is coming soon)
- Continent filters
- All space/biome hacks (Configs that make space requirements realistic are included in RB, so no need for others)
- Any hack that changes animal's main XML

I noticed that you mentioned changing the gestation periods and such. To my knowledge AD and many others have already properly scaled this. They don't keep it a 1:1 ratio, but instead have it as 1:4 or something similar. Not sure if you were aware of this.

I just want to throw out there that this is partially true. I'm pretty sure none of the Endangered Species animals have been changed, none or few of the African Adventures, half of the Marine Mania and animals only from ZT2 RR part A and B.

I know I got sick of my animals dying early, so I went back and changed them myself. I asked AD about this, and they said they will get to this after everything else. I think they did mention that they will get the original ZT2 animals done when they get the lion out. I know they mentioned that they wanted to get the lion out before resizing the jaguar.

Anywho, I was thinking about how ZT2 is rather unrealistic when it comes to the money. I was wondering if it would be possible to go back and change all the pricing, but I decided that it would be way too much work. I'm glad to see someone is doing it! I'm very interested to see how this turns out!

Tbh I don't know if AD changed animal lifespans... i just remember playing one day and my Lynxes dying of old age after like 6 months.. Don't remember if that was before or after RR though. In any case even if they did do something like that I'll still change it to be 1.1.

I don't know if this is a possibility for you to include, but if you're looking at accurate prices for purchasing animals, you may want to consider adding a sale amount on adoption so that you could gain revenue from animals.
Love what you're doing though!

This is true but only for the oldest releases (ZT2 part A & B and MM part A if I'm not mistaken). Animals that were released individually are missing these adjustments AFAIK.

Collar's placement hack is redistributed with Real Business so Animals do yield money for putting them up for adoption. Forgot to add this in the list of features in the OP.
