I really like all the variants and the mesh is quite good, the eyes in particular I love. I would agree however that the skins are bit too vibrant, and adding an overlaying texture such as scales or skin of some kind would greatly help with realism.

There's already a toad skin texture on there. ;) Vibrancy is being dropped ATM, though.

I don't think overall vibrancy is an issue, I really like the vibrancy. Maybe some colour variances on the skin or hue variances of the same colour would help you keep the vibrant design but offset it kind of just being everywhere. Tropical lizards are a good reference for how to do that. But I do agree with an overlay texture being used.

I really really like this dude.

I'm trying to use mostly amphibians for reference, but I'll keep that in mind.

Oh, and speaking of modern amphibians, I intend to give this lil' critter some customized sounds recorded from the wild around my house. Feel free to imagine them squeaking at you like a leopard frog from a dark corner before pouncing. ;)

So, I've run into a bit of a snag, my UVing skills have dropped aggressively during the time I focused on hard-surface modeling for things like robots. Anyone who's got some tips, or is an idle UV enthusiast, please send me a message.

Since I graduated from the Academy of Interactive Entertainment on June 29th, I was hoping to come back and build up a design team. I've got skill in modeling, textures, UVs, rigging, and animating, and I have a little experience with coding animals on a basic level. But I'd still say my UVs need work, and unfortunately, the program I was using to do textures while I was at my college (Substance Painter), is several hundred dollars. So if anyone enjoys UVs and Texturing, and would like to help me on this journey to making the 'Before the Dinosaurs" UXP I've been plotting for quite some time now, into a reality, I'd greatly appreciate the help. A little backup from some riggers who know blender would also be of some help, since my rigging and animation skill are with Autodesk Maya, and I am unsure if it will translate over.

Basically, anyone that wants to help make critters from before the Silurian to the end of the Later Permian, your assistance is much appreciated.

A quick update on my friendly little amphibian. ;)

New Platyhystrix Skin Type

I'm working on a few new variations and skin types as far as color goes.
But I'm pretty happy with the markings, so those will be staying as is.
Otherwise, if there are any color recommendations, please, do tell.

Who's the critter?

If you can guess the critter, I'll release it today.
If not, you'll have to wait until tomorrow.
Good Luck! :D

Is it a dinosaur or extinct mammal? if it a mammal then I'll guess Castoroides (it looks like a beaver based model to me, from that teaser) if it's a dinosaur, Pegomastax?

Ding ding ding!
We have ourselves a winner!
It is indeed Castoroides ohioensis.

Reveal

Made from the AD beaver with a new sound or two here and there created myself in Audacity.
Skin edits done in paint.net for a more reddish colored body, with a lighter anterior region, and more pronounced light hair around the face and neck, with light speckling on the back.
Original Model and Skin credits, AD and Lgcfm for OG variants.

If no one comes and objects, I will release in a few hours.
Just gotta get my filter icon to behave. >.>
