Always exciting to see someone get a handle on meshing. Ya'll are like an endangered species. ;)

Keep up the fantastic work!

really good mesh! I would say work a bit more on the back, it's really pointy now ;) you could also define the nose a bit more, and like others already said, the paws need a bit of work! I'd love to follow the progress you make! keep going!

:0 a fanalouc would be super cool, I'd love to see one but of course, no pressure :)

Lovin' the work on the genet.

This looks very special for a first attempt. I wonder if you could do extinct animals, like creodonts

Alright, so polygon count isn't an issue? In that case, I will definitely work on shaping up the nose/paws/ears etc. I can't right now since my graphics card is being real poop.

And yes I wouldn't mind doing extinct animals; I have experimented with drawing dinosaurs with musculature and surface anatomy like this one.

Well, polycount is in fact an issue - just nobody seems to care. It is not much of an issue, though, as you can generate levels of detail automatically on export.

Great job on the civet, kudos on picking up modeling so quickly and I also dig the heterodontosaur-ish concept!

You just exposed your first model, and frankly I think it is very successful.
I find it interesting to see young designer have such a potenciel, I'm sure you will design great thing in the future.

So about that dinosaur, It seems from the anatomy that you tried to design a type of dilophosauridae.
Overall it seems pretty decent, I would make a point relative to the thigh & legs, I think they are too thin & a little short.
Theropods possesses powerful leg muscle to move and hunt, I do a quick sketch & bring some ref to show you what i mean :

Guys, I just found the OTHER smoothness setting! it looks so nice. Here's a picture I made. It's kind of dumb.

@Samosaurus: Thank you for the critique and redline; I have posted that picture online and have had people mention that I shrinkwrapped it a bit, I will definitely work on it for future designs. If you google search dilophosaurus skeleton you can find the picture I drew the muscles on.

@Hendrix: Thankyou!

If you want to design dinosaurs, I recommend you to use Scott Hartman's Skeletal:

It's currently the best.

About you smoothness update, I do not think that as many verts are working for ZT2, 4500 verts is more regular.

Thanks for the links, I will check them out ASAP.

As for the verts, that is not how many there actually are, just a visual effect (unless I apply it, which I won't). So far it seems increasing subdivisions is better at showing errors in surface anatomy than simply smoothing the faces :)

Small update!
I'm working with a bluetooth mouse now but it's got worse sensitivity, so working on this was harder. Also, my graphics card has not been connecting to the monitor occasionally (unless I wiggle it).

Also I'm now enrolled for a diploma in 3D animation and will start tomorrow... So I wasn't home to work on this.

ANYWAY... I rotated the ankles and pushed the forepaws inwards so it has a more natural tetrapod stance. I've been shaping the leg and pelvis area. I'm trying to define some leg muscles like quadriceps and extensors, but it's hard as genets have such subtle anatomy.
I've got a genet paw reference ready to sculpt on. I need to go back and watch how Hendrix does it.
Also: Balloon tail!

I wouldn't smooth it out too much in this stadium ;) now we can't really see parts where you might need some help on. but looks really nice so far!
