Also I don't want to pester you but i was just wondering if your default theme remake for JFD was something that you were looking at finishing up and releasing?
When it comes to my projects, I'm only focusing on the ones that I'm showing. Any other projects are simply not on my mind at this point, so I can't make any promises on other things.

Thanks for the great comments guys ! I'll try to get this in testing phase by the weekend, and released in one of the following weeks. :)

What a great idea! It always bothers me that the current stps that we can use as terrarium ground are so flat. I definetely gonna use yours. :)

A small update, with 4 extra skins. Now to avoid any confusion like last time, there are the types from the top-left to bottom-right :

  • Sand : tan
  • Moss
  • Sand : red
  • Woodchips
  • Plaster : rock
  • Plaster : snow
  • Coconut : fibers
  • Coconut : husks

I chose to add the two coconut based substrates as they seemed to be quite popular in zoos, and added the two plaster ones because I assumed those would be requested sooner or later. I'm not going to make more variants. These 8, to me, seem to cover what you can see in actual zoos. Unless there are still very specific ones I did not cover yet, I'll keep it limited to these.

Thanks for all the comments, tomorrow I hope to show some more pictures of different model variants. ;)

I love this project of yours. I specially like the fact that there are going to be model variants with uneven terrains. This 8 skins look like they are going to be enough to cover all the basics (desert, australian outback, dirt of different shades, mossy grounds, snow). I hope you can work out a way of making them be height adjustable because that would be cool for making exhibits at different levels withouth having to use the elevated paths (and all the glitches on the terrain that come with placing them on low heights).

Can't wait to see what else you have planned now that you are free of JFD.

Good luck with this project!

I'm not slow! That's just my moe!

Sorry to make another suggestion since you said you wanted to be done, but sawdust for birds or for indoor sections of exhibits would be a great addition, and add a lot of versatility.

I'd suggest have them at a height of .5 or something similar. That way there is a little space between the "floor" and the view window.

I'm sure there are other options too, but maybe making them buildings so they could be placed similarly to Sophie's letters. That way we can get the different heights with elevated paths, but not need to keep the paths themselves.

Could they also be compatible with Snowleo's Carnivore house if I want to put in the lil' door sliders?

I might switch out one of the coconut ones with sawdust, as two coconut ones might be overkill. The main reason why I don't want too many skins is because I'm actively against overcrowding the menu with too many items. You'll probably notice that in other projects I'll do in the future, as it's an extremely important issue for me.

It's the main reason why you'll only have a flat, hill, pit and slope version of each skin as place-able objects. The other models will be incorporated as model-variants. I've figured out a new technique for model-variants as well, that will reduce hopefully reduce the amount of xmls significantly. ;)

Currently they are at a similar height, matching the height of Sophie's windows ( as seen in the first pictures. )

I'm certainly not going to make them buildings. My main reason for that is that they are in fact not meant to be buildings, and shelters are the closest things to these kinds of things.

The second reason is that it isn't a building specific thing. It's more a "if you can filter it out"-thing. Instead of adding objects that aren't buildings to the building tab, it's just better to expand the building filter ( the thing that makes them invisible ) to include regular scenery and shelters. I've did that for objects, and I'll release a few UI hacks in the future and I'll be sure to include that.

Not sure, but perhaps if Sophie is interested I might just make basic models and coding matching her fences, so they can be added to her building sets. Not something I'm working on now, and not something I'm really planning to do either. :)

Thanks for the positive feedback guys ! Tonight, I want to start working on the "tank" versions ( aka, ones that float on water and have a sloping side ), after that I'll start working on the different model variants. I hope to hit testing phase this weekend, but it will probably be next week.

I look forward to these. I hope they don't sink and instead would act like terrain when stuff is placed on them... I think you mentioned you're trying to make that work so apologies for ranting at this point.

I love the mossy one. That as well as these backgrounds I found would be perfect for small areas.
