I'm kinda surprised this wasn't shared here, but anywho...

There's attempts to restore the Mammoth Steppe in a small part of Siberia. Currently, Pleistocene Park, as it's called, is doing a Kickstarter to get assistance in bringing in large herbivores to restore an extinct ecosystem. This apparently has benefits in that the trampling of winter snow from larger animals can compact it and decrease ground temperature, which prevents permafrost from melting and methane gases being released. To my awareness, this has been going on for at least a decade or more.

Currently, the funds are at 50% with only 16 days to go. I'd personally love to donate in a heartbeat, but frankly, I am unable to. I can, however, at least spread the word so this campaign doesn't go under. They're also open to adding endangered and carnivorous species like tigers.

Bumping this thread because I bring you news:

Pleistocene Park reached 100% funding as of yesterday, with currently 40 hours to spare. I have to say, I'm actually relieved it managed to pass, because this means there's actually hope in not only restoring an ecosystem bit by bit, but also a means to combat climate change, even if it's only one small patch in a giant tundra.
