Just a quick question Panrex, will you add the Unknown Creature and it's symbiotic fruit?:

It's fine UraniumThylacine, I love answering questions! but, yes I would like to! Though some things like this creature are missing in information (and I hope to obtain some soon, but if that somehow fails, I'll just add my own ideas. It's better than nothing!), I intend to add even the "bonus" future creatures created by Dixon, including the ones that appeared elsewhere such as the ones found in the Omni magazine article and the three future horses he made for the Westphalian Horse Museum. Of course, before that, I'll be focusing on the After Man animals properly. The tree in the illustration might appear before that, however.
From what I gathered the code in the entityinfo.xml (in the layout folder) grabs it from from the ui.xml in the "original" folder in the language folder. However even after I made a Z2F that had a modified ui.xml that contained the strings for the future conservation text, it still didn't show up. If there was a way to directly write the information to be displayed in the entityinfo.xml, I think it'd be fine, but I don't know how that would be done. Also, keeping you guys updated again: sorry for the lack of updates these past few days. I've been terribly sick (I'm better now, though!) and very busy, but I did finish the Fin Lizard model and texture... Except auto-rigging has proved a little difficult yet for my level, but at least I have one more creature ready to receive a diorama. That being said, I'll try to use another, even simpler creature to see if it works better autorigging with another ZT2 animal. Also, regarding the prehistoric flora, still no progress was made yet. Sorry! Hopefuly this week I'll have something worthwhile to show! |

I feel like it's again those moments where I need to focus on something else other than the After Man animals in order to regain inspiration, so for now I'll be focused entirely in the prehistoric plants I was talking about. Here's the first one I made, Itopsidema, in the game preliminarly (it needs lots of adjustments, but I wanted to see how it looked like in-game).![]() Itopsidema was a tree fern from the Triassic period, found in Arizona. It's not a particularly famous species and there's no proper reconstructions of it out there, so I replicated it as it appears in Dinosaur Safari, which despite being made in 1996, at least has the advantage of having collaborated with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry for its production, plus prehistoric plants don't change as much as animals in terms of artistic reconstruction, so this Itopsidema might just as well be up to date. |

Yes! We need more prehistoric plants I think the colors look too bright though and too saturated. It kind of removes detail from the texture.

I'm gonna agree with Ignacio, but I'm assuming the texture's state is simply because as you said, it is a preliminary. Interesting color choice for the bark, though. 👍 |

Indeed, it needed adjustments in the texture and coloration. I also decided to try and crank up a little the game settings to take better screenshots for this project, too. Here's an updated (but still unfinished) version:![]() On the left I added one closer so that the details of the fern leaves can be seen. As I said, it's not entirely finished as it needs more shading and I need to code it as a tree properly (I just duplicated my After Man flower and replaced the model so I could see it in-game fast). But I'm quite happy with how it's turning out. As for the coloration of the bark, it's how the one I'm basing this on looks like; maybe it's not too realistic, but it looks good and unique for a tree fern. |

Hey everybody, sorry for the long silence. I had to make a trip to a place that didn't have internet connection. And I didn't bring my laptop with me so I couldn't mess with my projects. However I'll be resuming my prehistoric flora project, and hopefuly soon I'll have something to show. Since I’m having some issues with the Itopsidema, I decided to first make the smaller, simpler plants, so I may have something ready tomorrow. For now I'll finally reveal what the mysterious thing I talked about some time ago was all about, at least what I can (warning: long and boring text ahead): Spoiler: click to toggle TL;DR: After Man is not up to its full potential as it deserves. As such, the After Man pack will include the creatures that aren't officially part of it, but were made by Dixon nonetheless, if with not much depth to them. This includes the "bonus" After Man background animals, the Omni article creatures (minus the future human because I just can't bring myself to do it, sorry MAM fans), the Westphalian Horse Museum future horses, different species of a few of the vanilla animals based on dissonant designs, and at least two entirely original animals that are implicited to exist but aren't really show - one of which fixes a very odd aspect of one of the illustrations. All of the extras will receive a common name, a scientific name, and descriptions to flesh them up. That being said, it's a good opportunity for me to talk about these extras and what I'll be doing with them (at least the ones I have the most to discuss, that is), so if you're still interested, more text in the spoiler! Spoiler: click to toggle Anyways, sorry for the long post everybody, and the lack of actual ZT2 content to show. This past days have been difficult, and I needed to vent a little on the interview I conducted, but I'll be sure to continue with my projects. Until then I hope the planning I wrote offers an amusing read! |

I know how discouraging it must have been to talk to someone who created a favoured project of your own and didn't really come through to your expectations with something as personal and direct as an interview, but don't let it keep you down. Artists more often than not devalue themselves and their work, even when it's bloody brilliant, and sometimes they can even turn sour about their most famous works if they feel it doesn't deserve the attention it got. Most obvious example would be Arthur Conan Doyle, who grew to hate the Sherlock Holmes series because he felt it burdened him and stopped him from really writing about what he liked, but people expected and demanded him to write more in the series, so he did. I like your own speculation though on what you've been presented, it looks rather true to the originals, as well. I'm looking forward to seeing this project progress with your own spin on things. |
