Sure hope so! :D Zoker kindly offered his help to rig these models, so it willl finally be possible to have them as functional animals; he already rigged the Fin Lizard but I still need to code what's missing. The pictured model is the diorama sculpture, though.

Ahhh, the hype! These look great, the texture is beautifully done. I never thought I'd be this invested in a speculative evolution project.
I have to agree, I usually don't care for anything besides extinct and living species but these are fascinating and quite well made! I look forward to whatever you produce next.

Traditionally that's how the Zoo Tycoon community has been since the ZT1 times, and that's perfectly fine; regardless of popularity there's always someone who will like the weird and unusual downloads. As I said before, I'm not doing anything for fame or attention, so I'm really happy people are interested in these projects I'm making :D .

Anyways, some more previewing before I call it a day. Recently I found my old old drawings from 2002-2003 I made as a kid, and it's seriously 80% composed of Future is Wild animals because it was back when it first aired where I lived. The majority of these were of the Megasquid (with varying levels of show-accuracy), which has always been my favorite animal of the series, so I felt a surge of creative energy to go and model the Megasquid for the pack too! Here's a very unfinished version, compared to how it looks in the show:

For those unfamiliar with it, Future is Wild is a TV documentary series that's sort of an "updated" take on the After Man prospect of the future evolution of animals - Dixon worked as a consultant for it since he's often the go-to guy on the subject. The program focuses on the animals of 5, 100, and 200 million years hence, all done on 3D graphics (they are a bit dated, but that wasn't an issue at all back when) mixed with real life locations, much like how it was done with the Walking with series.

Unlike After Man, Future is Wild has remained with a pretty strong presence over the years, and is usually more well known (in fact I found After Man because of it), and most recently, there's a VR project that will be released sometime in the future, with new animals and new time periods. I'm really excited for that! Once it's released and we get to see what the animals will be, I would love to include them in the FiW part of the pack too!

The Future is Wild animals were always on the plan to be included as part of the After Man pack (though they'll appear in the game in their own filter category and with their own exp icon), but I wasn't actually planning to anytime soon before. Now I'm quite excited to make the other ones too!

TL;DR: FUTURE IS WILD!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ha, back when people were estatic to have a recoloured dinosaur and were happy enough to just call it something else, no model changes or anything. That Herrerasaurus recoloured green was almost definitely a Dilophosaurus, honest! I sometimes miss those simple times, haha. I think I was always the one that ended up with the unusual mythical downloads, though. I remember when the Pernese Dragons by Guest were released and I was estatic, using them in every zoo I made after that.

I like wierd downloads, always have and always will, I guess I just never thought someone would take speculative evolution and stick it in ZT2. And now that someone has, I'm all for and all over the idea! That squid looks incredible, gonna have to check some of these documentaries out when I can.

The Future is Wild is great. I remember Animal Planet having a TFIW special and being all over that. Generally I am only mildly interested in spec evo but they make it very believable.

@Thiago Nunes: I assume you're asking how many of these I'll make (apologies if you mean something else); I plan on making the models for all of the After Man & Future is Wild animals (and plants of note), but as for them being functional animals I can't say for sure.

@Serpyderpy: Hahaha yeah that was quite the imaginative time; I also was super into Cryptozoology at the time, so I grabbed all the cryptids I could find. Only to find most of them were recolors of the Yeti (which I was very much excited to have as an official release, too!).

And I think the idea of implementing speculative evolution animals to ZT has been around a long time; heck, I remember I first knew of After Man because someone posted their ideas for a pack for ZT1. Ever since I wanted to make something of the likes, and now with ZT2 I'm finally making it!

Also, I definitely recommend the Future is Wild documentary. I'm big on evolution, especially in entertainment form.

@magpiealamode: I believe the original version aired in Animal Planet, and then a different one aired in Discovery Channel later, adding a sort of backstory that future humans sent probes to analyze the Earth in these periods. I have a soft spot for this one because it's the version I saw. Plus, it has a cool montage with the Eiffel tower as time speeds up.

You know what I think the Discovery version was the one I watched. Regardless it was very good, I loved the gannetwhales among other things. I look forward to seeing what you might make out of the series!

Future is Wild, I have that on DVD, the Toraton amazed me the most, as I always though that would be one of the more likely animals to be incorporated into ZT2.

Hmm, I'm not to kean on the VR though, that future dolphin, it looks to reptilian.

I have to agree that the Titan Dolphin leaves a lot to be desired, for a lot of reasons - more importantly because it breaks the estabilished FiW timeline of mammals becoming extinct at 100 milion years hence. To be fair, it's probably not a final thing; I saw a discussion on the SE forums, and if it's to be believed, a lot of its info is placeholder text and very likely to change with the feedback they're giving to the creators, and I hope it does.

Anyways on to some progress reporting: I finished the Megasquid model, and began making the texture. At the moment it lacks lot of details, but it's already possible to have an idea of how it will look like.

Keep in mind that due to its unusual shape it will remain as an object (there's probably not any animal animation in ZT2 that would look good with it); also, it will be the last model made for this installment of the pack, so after it's done I'll make the remaining objects (the Fin Lizard diorama and the Gigantelope info boxes) and then proceed to focus solely on the coding.

And thanks for the comments everybody :D I can see you guys are quite excited with the next part.
