Hey everybody! Sorry I don't have any previews again today, but there's a good reason for that: A few days ago I sent a very special e-mail for a very special someone pertaining to my projects.... And that someone replied! Now I'll be sending another e-mail, and with luck, that might give me a little information on what I need! Sorry for keeping everything under wraps as of now, once that's done I'll tell all about it!

While I’m waiting for that reply to make the second Night Stalker diorama, I skipped on to create another After Man creature, the Flooer! As usual, very early in development, but I think it’s turning up nicely!![]() Which makes it a reasonable moment for me to touch upon the subject of some of the designing decisions I’ll be making in the After Man pack when it comes to the animals as animals; a handful of the creatures presented in the book posses behaviors and lifestyles that make them very impractical to be implemented in the game. As such, when the need arises, I’ll decide whether a certain creature will have their trademark lifestyle altered (i.e. the “flower mimics” such as the Flooer), or simply ignored (i.e. most obligatory tree-dwellers), and in some cases, they may appear as objects exclusively, either as sculptures (i.e the Parashrew) or as “mini-exhibits” types (very tiny creatures like the Pfrit). In the case of the Flooer, their lifestyle “gimmick” is that they’re sedentary flightless bats that stay still amid flowers with their mouths open and exhaling a sweet scent to attract bugs. While it’s not a stretch to add a custom sitting-still animation, the creature will still be a functional ZT2 animal, and this method just won’t do for feeding; in this case the Flooer will be coded to use the regular insectivore food dishes. Alternatively, they could receive a custom food-dish that functions as a bug-lure, much like the buoys in Marine Mania, that’s exclusive to them. Edited by Panrex, Jul 4 2017, 08:03 PM.

The koala is a pretty good suggestion, actually. I was thinking of the dog animations as the walk and sit animations seemed to be a better fit. Neither will be 100% adequate unless there's some tinkering, though!

Love the model, can't wait until it gets released, Also for the tiny statue creatures I would suggest to put them inside a terrarium (Like what Whalebite did:Reptile Terrariums)

At the moment the Parashrew is the only one I'm sure will be really part of a sculpture, since it's only important because of the juvenile, otherwise it's a regular-looking shrew. For the rest of the tiny animals, yes, they'll be much like the terrariums (or small aviaries, depending). One thing I considered doing for these mini-exhibits is coding them to count as viewing animals. As in, guests will look at them and they'll impact the scoring like functional animals, maybe even posessing their own gifts. Still way too early to state anything concrete, however. Anyways, the Flooer model and texture is pretty much finished! Just need a few minor adjustments in the UV:![]() I do like how he looks from the front! Its diorama will, understandably, require its signature vegetable counterpart to create the scene, so that's what I plan on doing next! |

Sorry I did not answer earlier. I have been really ill and have not gone online or even worked on zoo tycoon. Who knew puling a muscle in your back would make it agonizing to type? Anyway the BFBs crash in game, though I have yet to test yours thanks to the previously mentioned back injury. Love your conservation status picture and it's hilarious the filters are the same ![]() Wonderful job! I can't wait for that Nightstalker and the new food items are fantastic! I once tried to turn the pie cart into a pizza cart and failed miserably, LOL. I second the koala animations for the flooer as they sit up and crane their necks backwards just like in the picture. P.S. If anyone ever remakes the guests please give them human sounds. I hate those weird noises the geasts make so much that I keep the tailipo on my machine just so the screams at least sound like human screams. |

Definitely! I'll try to add as much as possible from what is in the book! The future termite mound is quite enormous, however (if the illustrations are to be believed, the ghole is NOT a very small animal), so it's better suited for large enclosures, which in turns make me think that I should also code it to impact tour scoring like the other tour objects in the game.After the next After Man mini-pack, I'm considering making more plants, particularly prehistoric species, because I really like prehistoric-themed stuff!
Ouch, I know someone who went through the same thing, and it's not a fun thing to happen. Hope you get well soon! I know I made the conservation symbol very quick to show the concept, but I quite like how it turned out! As for guests remake, I think I'd probably be lazy and go for the easy way and grab the sound effects from ZT1, which aren't as bad, honestly. XD Anyways, a tiny little update: I've finished the model, texture and most of the coding (messed up the coding for custom locations) of the Batavian flowers! Here is how they look like in-game: ![]() As a quick note: due to my low-settings, it doesn't appear with all the detailing it's supposed to have in the middle of the flower, but hopefuly it's more visible with better graphics! |

Thanks for the kind comments, everybody it means a lot! And I'm glad that I can appeal to the fans of speculative evolution AND pique the interest of those who aren't! One more preview for the day, the first Night Stalker diorama (well, more of a standalone model) is finished!![]() I must say, I didn't actually expected the model to look that good in-game! I think maybe the ferns in the base need some rework, but otherwise I'm really satisfied on how it turned out! Now I just need to assemble the Flooer diorama and I'll release part 2 of the After Man teaser pack. If I get that reply I've been waiting for this weekend, there might even be something more to add to it before I release. Fingers crossed! |
